Hello again Stampin' Friends!

Okay, I'm probably showing my age here, but does anyone else remember the song from the movie Mary Poppins titled 'My Favourite Things'?  Part of it goes "…when I'm feeling sad, I simply remember my favourite things, and then I don't feel so bad…"

Well, it's been pretty grey and drizzly here on the West Coast (I sometimes call it the 'Wet' coast!), so yesterday I brought out some of my favourite stamps!

You'll  notice that my blog design has hummingbirds and butterflies – well, that's no coincidence!  They are 2 of my favourites; I love to watch the hummingbirds come to the feeder that is right outside my kitchen window, and every time I see a butterfly, I have to comment 'butterly, fluttering by…' – another hold over from my childhood! 🙂

In the new Spring Catalogue, Stampin' Up! released a fabulous new stamp that I just KNEW I HAD to have, as soon as I saw it – it's called 'Swallowtail'.  Now, when I was little in Eastern Canada, we saw swallowtail butterflies ALL the time in the spring & summer…I guess they don't live here on the West Coast, though…must be a climate thing.  Anyway, I've been having such fun with it, and one of my other favourite stampin' things – heat embossing!

Here's my latest Swallowtail card – I made it for my niece's birthday.

Isn't it amazing, the impact this stamp can have, even when it's only partially shown?

Materials Used:

Cardstock: Elegant Eggplant (#105126), Whisper White (#100730)

Inks: Elegant Eggplant (#126969), More Mustard (#126964), Pretty in Pink (#126955), Versamark (#102283), Embossing Powder White (#109132)

Tools: Curly Label Punch (#119851), Borders Scoring Plate (#126192), Heat Tool (#129053)

Other: Paper Snips (#103579), Bone Folder (#102300), Sponge Daubers (#102892), Dimensionals (#104430), Pearl Basic Jewels (#119247)

First I stamped the Swallowtail on Whisper White cardstock in Versamark, covered that with white embossing powder, and set it with my heat gun.  Next, using my sponge daubers and Elegant Eggplant, More Mustard and Pretty in Pink stamp pads, I gently coloured in the butterfly wings and body.  Then I carefully cut it out, using my Paper Snips.

I adhered the butterfly to a piece of Elegant Eggplant cardstock, after first using the new Borders Scoring Plate to add the accents on the side of the cardstock. I used the Pearl Basic Jewels in the right hand corner for accent.

I stamped the Happy Birthday sentiment using the (retired) Elementary Elegance set, and punched it out with the Curly Label punch.  The sentiment and butterfly were adhered using dimensionals, and the Elegant Eggplant panel was then adhered (with dimensionals) to a Whisper White card base.

Next post, I'll share with you my card with a hummingbird on it! 🙂  In the meantime, I've listed NEW CLASSES for the next few months; they include 'Spread the Love' (Valentine's Day), 'Intro to Stamping' (new or returning stampers), 'Spring into Easter' (Easter theme), 'Mom's the Word' (Mother's Day) and 'Dads & Grads' (for Father's Day & Graduation).

I hope you'll sign up for a class or two – I'd love to see you!

Until next time, Happy Stampin'!

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)

Thank you for leaving a comment – I really appreciate it! 🙂

  1. Wow, Deb, what a gorgeous card! Your cutting is so precise and the butterfly is a beautiful stamp. I’m so glad SU has a realistic butterfly again! I used a SU butterfly stamp on the first card I ever made and was hooked from that day on! I can see that big stamp as a lovely addition to scrapbook pages, too. Thanks for sharing!
