ALTERNATE PAPER PUMPKIN CARD
I admit – I’m one of those people who don’t always (ok, hardly ever!) create my Paper Pumpkin kits when they arrive. However, that can work in my favour sometimes! Like recently, when I wanted to make a special sympathy card. A good friend had just lost her father, and I wanted something different to send her. I remembered the gorgeous colours in the August Paper Pumpkin kit, and thought I could use that as a starting point. Did you know that Stampin’ Up! has a Pinterest board full of alternate Paper Pumpkin card ideas? Even the 3D kits!
Every month, the Stampin’ Up! Design Team creates the kit as intended, then they post those, along with alternate ideas from SU!, plus other demonstrators! There are literally thousands of ideas – and a separate board for each month. To check it out, CLICK HERE. You’ll be glad you did (and amazed at everyone’s creativity!).
SYMPATHY CARD
I decided to use one of the card bases as my starting point.
CARD DETAILS
The image panel is actually meant to be a card base, but I wanted to add my own layers, so I cut it down, and attached it to a panel of Melon Mambo cardstock. The sentiment is from the retired Thoughts & Prayers stamp set. It’s stamped in Blackberry Bliss ink onto Whisper White cardstock. I used the retired Tags & Labels thinlits to die cut the sentiment, plus a slightly larger label to fit behind it, in Blackberry Bliss cardstock. Then, stamp a couple of the small flowers included in the Paper Pumpkin kit in Blackberry Bliss and Melon Mambo ink.
Wrap a length of the Baker’s Twine included in the PP Kit around the left side of the panels. To layer it together, create a card base of Blackberry Bliss cardstock. attach the 2 panels – the Melon Mambo and printed panel – to it with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Next, attach the sentiment panels together, and attach to the card front. Tuck in some of the die cut vellum leaves, from the PP Kit, in the upper left and bottom right corners behind the sentiment panels.
INSIDE PANEL
As always, I added a Whisper White cardstock panel to the inside of the card. The sentiment is again from the retired Thoughts & Prayers stamp set, in Blackberry Bliss ink.
I then repeated the small flower stamps from the outside, to the inside panel.
ANOTHER LOOK
I think it turned out quite well, and I know my friend did receive it. Two days ago was the Celebration of Life for her Dad, and it was lovely. Both of her daughters are wonderful photographers, so there were lots of great pictures around, and one of them had put together a couple of slide shows, set to music. It was wonderful; he will be dearly missed by all.

Beautiful card, Deborah! I’m sure it was appreciated by the family!
Thank you, Buffy. I know my friend appreciated it; it’s just so difficult to make these cards, when it’s so personal.
