Beautiful Day By Altenew

I just received a new stamp and die set, called Beautiful Day by Altenew. I had ordered it a few weeks ago, and was so happy when it arrived! Altenew makes amazing paper, washi tape, inks -everything you need to coordinate with their stamps. I particularly love their layering stamp sets, of which they make a lot. Having multiple stamped layers produces the most gorgeous, realistic looking images. Today’s card is for this week’s Paper Craft Crew sketch challenge!

This is the sketch we’re working from this week.

Doesn’t that look like fun to start with? Remember, the sketch is your starting point. You can change the circles to a different shape; perhaps squares? And the little bunny can be changed to any figure or image you want. Just keep the basic sketch so it’s recognizable. As for the stamps, colours, and embellishments – that’s all up to  you!

I chose the large flower image from the Beautiful Day stamp set as my focal point, to replace the first circle shape.

This image actually has 4 stamps to it, but I only used 3. The one I didn’t use is the fine detail outline. I left that off, as I wanted to flower to look softer, and more natural.

Start with a separate piece of white cardstock. Start by stamping the solid flower image in the lightest colour. Next choose a medium colour for the mid-depth details, and then the darkest colour for the largest shadows. The colours I chose to use are Stampin’ Up! classic inks in Flirty Flamingo, Melon Mambo and finally Fresh Fig.

Next, stamp the solid leaf image in the lightest, then the 1st shadows in a medium, and then the outline in a dark. I again used SU! inks, in Lemon Lime Twist, Old Olive and finally Shaded Spruce. I’m kind of wishing I had left off the final outline in Shaded Spruce.

When finished stamping, use the Beautiful Day Dies by Altenew with a Big Shot to die cut both images. You’ll notice how nice & close these dies cut to the image, so there’s not a lot of white space left.

Next, cut a large circle with a stitched circle die. I used a piece of patterned paper from my stash. Next, cut a strip of bright green cardstock, and another strip from the same patterned paper. Use scissors to cut banner tails on both ends, of both strips. I chose to layer my strips behind the large circle, instead of between the flower and circle.

Attach the die cut flower on top of the circle, with foam tape or squares.  Next, tuck in the die cut leaves to the left of the flower, using liquid glue to attach it. All other layers were attached using foam tape or squares.

After layering the images and strips to a Flirty Flamingo cardstock layer, I attach it to a card base of the bright green Lemon Lime Twist cardstock base, To finish it off, I added 4mm and 6mm Clear Droplets, from Pretty Pink Posh.

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)

    1. If it weren’t for the fact that I needed to stay with the sketch, I’d have been stamping those flowers everywhere! I’m glad you like my card, Susan 🙂

    1. I’m glad that you like my card, Buffy! I need to play with more colour combinations – get out of my comfort zone 🙂
