I’m very excited about a new product line that I’ll be adding to my shop! I’ve found an amazing supplier who creates intricately cut frame shapes from wood. She sells these frames, which are in many, many different shapes, to artists to create with how they like. There are many ways to create with them; I’ve decided to incorporate them with my resin art! I’ve got several projects on the go, but I have this beautiful sunflower that I can share with you, now.
RESIN & GLASS SUNFLOWER
The intricate cuts that she’s able to create, with the use of a special machine, are amazing. As soon as I saw this sunflower, it immediately went to the top of my list.
I think that this turned out gorgeous! The very middle of the flower is solid. I decided to add texture with coloured fire glass, to mimic the seeds. To provide depth and contrast in the petals, I used 2 different shades of yellow to tint the resin.
SEE THE DIMENSION
This gorgeous sunflower measures 11″ across, and the wood is 1/4″ thick. In the photo below, you can see the dimension of the petals, as well as the layered fire glass ‘seeds’.
This next photo show the pretty reflection of the light shining through the resin petals, onto the wall. For the photos, I had just propped the sunflower against the wall. A hanger will be added to the back, so that this beauty can grace your wall.
I’m working on more fabulous shapes, including butterflies, lotus flowers, a bear and a mountain/water scene. Creating with resin is time consuming, but I’m hoping to get them all done, and added to my Shop soon. In loads of time for Christmas present shopping!
If you would love to claim this sunflower as your own, drop me a message at thistledesigns@shaw.ca It’s the only one I have right now, and getting more of the wood frame cuts will take a while (they are made to order, and come from the U.S.).
What a beautiful sunflower, Deborah! I love all the dimension and the way it catches the light. Gorgeous work.
Thanks, Buffy! I’m glad that you like the wood frame sunflower. I’m looking forward to making more of these, in different shapes! 🙂
