Happy New Year, my friend! I hope that the start to 2022 has been a positive one for you. I’m continuing with my painting and creating, which is what I have to share with you today. I’m really trying to loosen up my watercolour painting, but it’s very difficult for me! I found a gorgeous royalty free photograph that inspired me to try a little harder.
BIRD AND BERRIES
I was looking on Pixabay for photos for upcoming weeks for our #brushobuddies inspiration photos, when I came across this one. I loved the bird in flight, grabbing some berries off of the hanging branches.
MY VERSION
I received a brand new pad of Stonehenge Aqua Cold Press paper for Christmas, so I opened it up, and lightly trace the bird outline in pencil. Then I used my Brusho Crystal Colours, trying my best to keep the painting of the wings ‘loose’ and less defined. The rest of the bird, and berries, have more definition.
I think that it almost worked! It’s difficult for a Type A like me to keep things loose and blurred! So yes, you do see more definition of the feather shapes and separation. Here’s a closer look, below.
You’ll find the colours I used listed below, along with shopping links.
Here’s another look, this time with a mat over the painting.
If you have any tips to share on how to paint ‘loosely’, I’d love to hear them! In the meantime, I’ll keep practicing. Thanks for hanging out with me today.

This is so beautiful. I too am a type A personality, and thus am so impressed with what you have created. Just lovely
You’re so kind – thanks for the comment, Jackie! 🙂
