Bird House Easel Card

Spoiler alert, if you’re on my Christmas card list! You just may receive one of these cards this season. I’m in love with this bird house easel card! It’s one of the holiday release dies by Poppystamps, called Bird House Pop Up Easel Set.  I love creating unique cards to send for Christmas, and this is going to be one of them.

One great thing about this die set is that you can use it year-round, for any season! Change up the colours and add different add-ons, like flowers or leaves instead of pine needles. Bird houses are perfect for any occasion. New home, happy spring, birthday – whatever you want.

This is how my card looks, closed. Easel cards stand up for display, but fold flat for mailing – bonus! With this die set, you get all the die pieces to create all the layers for the birdhouse, including the icicles if you’re doing a winter theme. Have a look below, for the dies included.

You get a total of 10 dies, and they’re on a magnetic sheet in the packaging. That’s how I love to store my dies!

You can choose how to design your card, using all or a few of the layers. I went all out, and used ALL of the layers! With the exception of the cardinals and the inner & outer circles of the bird house opening, I used all coloured cardstock. For the cardinals, I die cut 2 of them, and used my Copic markers to colour the birds. For the inner & outer circle for the bird  house opening, I die cut off-white cardstock, and blended distress oxide ink on them, for shading.

The blue layer of the bird house die also embosses the lines, for that ship-lap look. To emphasize the lines and add a shadow, I traced the lines with a blue coloured pencil.  The icicles are die cut from sparkle paper. Shading is added around the edges of the bird house pieces using a blending tool and distress oxide inks.  Here’s a look, below, at how the finished card looks, open.

The sentiment is from another new Poppystamps sentiment set, called Christmas Fun.  It is stamped in red ink and glued across the bottom of the bird house.  For the inner sentiment, from the same set, I glued 2 layers of cardstock, to use it as the ‘holder’ for the easel.

The picture above let’s you read the inner sentiment. I love the extra flourishes in this font!

Have you decided on your Christmas cards, yet? I try to get started early, because of course I hand make them all. And I like to do 2 or 3 different ones, so not everyone gets the same card. If you like this bird house easel card and want to make it for yourself, I’ve given links below to the supplies.  Thanks for spending some time with me today! Have a great week creating.

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)

  1. Deb Smart, that is the cutest thing ever! So beautiful! I love it! So wonderful, Deb. 💜 I want that die set. I hope you are having a great day, Deb. We are still having plumbing issues. Our toilet is working, thank the Lord, but our sewer line (old neighborhood, old house, old sewer lines) has an issue. OUR line is in good condition. The issue is where it connects with the city, which should be the responsibility of the city to fix. That’s what we are waiting on. It’s been a stressful week. I mean, it all depends on money. Well, the Lord is still in control. He always makes the way. Anyway, beautiful card! 💜💜💜
