Candy Cane Season Z Fold Card

A few days ago, my ‘quick & easy’ card featured the Candy Cane Season stamp set. If you missed it, you can SEE IT HERE! Well, this time I’m featuring the same set, but it’s not quite as quick & easy. This is a Candy Cane Season Z fold card; still lots of fun, and very sweet 🙂

Make your life a bit more simple – purchase the Candy Cane Season Bundle, which includes the stamp set and the Candy Cane Builder Punch! Plus, you’ll save yourself 10%, which you can use to buy something else!

Creating the card base is quite easy. Cut your cardstock base – in this case, use Balmy Blue cardstock – to 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2. On the long side, score at 2 1/8″ and 4 1/4″.  Fold in half (left to right) at the 4 1/4″ score line, then fold backwards (right to left) on the 2 1/8″ score line. This creates the front fold of the ‘Z’.

It’s always nice to add some layers, for more interest. Cut3 layers of Tranquil Tide cardstock; 2 pieces that measure 2″ x 5 1/4″, and 1 that measures 4″ x 5 1/4″. Next you’ll want to add the patterned paper. Use the snowflake pattern from the Joyous Noel Specialty Designer Series Paper. Cut 2 panels at 1 3/4″ x 5″, and 1 panel at 3 3/4″ x 5″. Attach all the layers together, and then onto the card base, with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

Use the Big Shot and Stitched Shapes Thinlits dies to die cut 2 ovals. One from Tranquil Tide and one from Whisper White cardstock. Make them the same size – trust me on this! On the white oval, stamp the snowflake image from the Candy Cane Season stamp set repeatedly in Balmy Blue ink.  When you’ve finished stamping, now use the oval 1 size smaller, and die cut the middle from the stamped oval. Keep the outer ring that you just created – you’ll be using it later.

Attach a length of Real Red 3/8″ Mixed Satin Ribbon (from the Holiday catalogue, pg. 6) behind the white oval, creating a loop at the top. Hold it in place with a piece of Tear & Tape. Next, layer the white oval on top of the Tranquil Tide one, with liquid glue.

Ink up the candy cane image first with Versamark ink, the immediately with Real Red ink. On a separate piece of white cardstock, stamp the candy cane image. Cover it with Clear Embossing Powder, and set with the Heat Tool.  Punch it out with the Candy Cane Builder Punch.

With the Blizzard Thinlit Die and the Big Shot, die cut some snowflakes from Silver Glimmer Paper. Attach one large glimmer snowflake in the middle of the stamped white oval with liquid glue. Attach the punched candy cane on top, with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Add a medium sized snowflake in the middle of the candy cane with liquid glue. Finally, add a bow tied from the same ribbon in the middle of the snowflake, with Mini Glue Dots.

Now you can attach your focal image piece to the front fold of the card. BE SURE TO ONLY ADD GLUE TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE OVAL – otherwise you’ll be gluing your card shut!

Doesn’t that look pretty?! You did such a good job!

Well, you didn’t expect me to leave the inside with nothing but DSP on it, did you?! C’mon – you know me better than that by now! 😉

I decided to mimic the focal point on the front, but if you want, you can just add a plain white space to write your sentiment. (Really? You would do that? No you wouldn’t!)  Use the Stitched Shapes Framelits again to die cut the back oval, the same size as your front Tranquil Tide oval. Now, pick up that outer ring – you know, the one you cut from the front stamped oval – and layer it on top of the back oval. See, I told you to trust me! Now, stamp your sentiment from the Candy Cane Season stamp set in Real Red on the inside white oval. Ta-Da!  You’re amazing!

Finally, add another length of the red ribbon behind the 2 ovals, again creating a loop at the top. Flip your front panel closed, so you can make sure your front oval panels will cover the inside ones when your card is closed, then attach the inside ones, with liquid glue.

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)
