Cozy Companions

My most favourite thing to do -even before crafting – is reading! Although I always put my crafting/artwork before reading, because well, I share those things with you. But to settle down with a good book, get immersed in the story and characters is the best thing ever. So when I saw the new MFT Cozy Companions stamp set, my heart went pit-a-pat! My best friend Susan & I have no problem sitting together doing nothing but reading. We’ve known each other long enough that we don’t have to ‘chat’ all the time. And we like to share when we’ve found a REALLY good book!

COZY COMPANIONS

I tried something a bit different, that I’ve been seeing on other stamping blogs. It’s this ‘slimline’ or ‘skinny’ card, that fits into a letter sized envelope. The card base is 8″ x 9″, scored and folded at 4″.

This extra long length gives you lots of room to create this fabulous scene!

CARD DETAILS

Start by stamping the individual images onto separate white cardstock, in Nocturne ink. Cover with clear embossing powder, and heat set. Now you can start colouring with your favourite medium. I pulled out all of my alcohol markers, and went to town! Depending on what colours I chose, I use a combination of Spectrum Noir Illustrator, Spectrum Noir Tri-Blend, and Stampin’ Up! Blends.  After colouring, use a small blender brush to add a ‘glow’ of Mustard Seed Distress ink behind the flames in the fireplace. Now, use the matching Cozy Companions dies to die cut each piece.

To create the background, blend on some Vintage Photo Distress Oxide ink onto the bottom third of a 3 3/4″ x 8 3/4″ piece of white cardstock. Next, glue on some wood grain patterned paper to the top portion, to create the wall. To create the rug, I used the rug die from the Honey Bee ‘Blah Bunny’ die set and a piece of blue paper. Now it’s time to arrange the cozy scene with the two friends, next to the roaring fire! Use glue to attach the fireplace in the background, and then foam tape for all of the other die cut pieces.

This photo below shows the dimension of all the pieces layered together.

I’d love to be in this scene, especially with the cute fox and adorable bear!

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)
