Delightfully Detailed Ombre Background

That’s ‘ombre’, as in the gradual blending of one colour hue to another, usually moving tints and shades from light to dark.  Not ‘hombre’, like the bad guy in the B-grade movie! Today I’m sharing a Delightfully Detailed ombre background with you.

I love playing with ink, and achieving different looks by combining colours. Creating an ombre look with our Sponge Brayers is really easy, and fun!

I needed a quick card for today, and this was definitely quick and easy! But it doesn’t look like it, does it?

First, cut a panel of Whisper White cardstock the same size as your panel of Delightfully Detailed Laser-Cut Specialty Paper.  Next, pull out the ink pads in the colours you want to use. I chose Highland Heather, Gorgeous Grape and Blueberry Bushel.

Starting with the lightest in colour,  (Highland Heather), load up your Sponge Brayer with ink. Remember to roll your brayer in one direction only; rolling it back & forth will result in heavy ink on only 1 spot on the roller. Apply the ink to the cardstock by rolling the brayer – in one direction – across the bottom third of the white cardstock. Once your happy with the colour, now load up the same brayer with the Gorgeous Grape ink.  Because these two colours in are the same colour family, and you’re going from light to darker, there’s no need to change or clean your brayer first.

After applying the Gorgeous Grape ink, now switch to another brayer sponge for the Blueberry Bushel. The great thing about our Sponge Brayers is that they come with 2 handles, and 4 sponges. So you don’t have to do any washing and waiting for the rollers to dry, when you want to be creating!

Now that the ombre background is complete, attach the laser-cut panel to the front. Use the Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals; they’re the perfect size to fit in the small areas around the edges.

I knew I wanted to add some ribbon, but I didn’t have any in the 3 colours that I had used :(.  Sponge Brayers to the rescue! I used some retired Satin White ribbon, and created my own ombre ribbon! Apply the ink in the same manner you did with the cardstock; lightest to darkest. The ribbon is a little ‘deeper’ in texture, so it does take a little more ink, but it applies and dries quickly.

Wrap the ribbon along the left side of the panel; attach it in the back with Tear & Tape.

The die cuts in the paper reminded me of a set that I haven’t used in ages – the Eastern Beauty stamp set and the Eastern Medallions Thinlits. I chose the sentiment from the Eastern Beauty stamp set, and stamped in Blueberry Bushel ink onto Whisper White. Then use the Big Shot with the Eastern Medallions Thinlits to die cut the sentiment, as well as cutting the same shape in Gorgeous Grape cardstock. Layer the two together, offsetting the points, with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Now, attach the panels to a Blueberry Bushel cardstock base.

To finish off your card, add some Clear Rhinestone Jewels to the sentiment, and the laser cut paper.

As always, add a panel of Whisper White cardstock to the inside of your card. That way, you can stamp some images, a sentiment, and of course have a place to write a message.

I chose another sentiment from the Eastern Beauty stamp set, and stamped in Blueberry Bushel ink. I then chose the sprinkle image stamp, and added it in Gorgeous Grape in to each corner.

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)
