Family Birthday Celebration

Welcome to the new week, my friend! I hope that you enjoyed your weekend. We celebrated my husband’s birthday this weekend; just a low-key dinner, as he’s not really into celebrating. He says he’s ‘past the age of celebrating’. I say we should all celebrate that we made it another year! Anyway, I made him a fun card with the MFT Best in Show stamp set and dies.

Some times it can be difficult coming up with new cards for family members! It can feel like ‘oh, I’ve done this before’ – but I know I haven’t done this one for him! Family Birthday Celebration

Isn’t this fun?! I just got my order of Nuvo Glimmer paste – Moonstone – and I LOVE the shine it gives to the sun rays! I know you can see it in the above photo, but it’s even better in person.

Start with a panel of white cardstock. Stamp the Scene Builders image from MFT in a light green ink, about halfway up the panel. Next, add the grass detail image in the bottom area. Colour in the trees using a couple of different shades, for depth. I used my Spectrum Noir Tri-Blend Marker in Light Green.

Next, place the Studio Katia Underwater Sun Rays stencil onto the panel, so that the rays shine up from behind the grassy hills. Hold the stencil in place with Thermo Web Purple Tape; it won’t tear your paper when removing it. Use a blending tool & add on a first a light yellow for the rays, and then a darker yellow at the bottom, near the grass. I chose Stampin’ Up! Daffodil Delight ink for the lighter, and Mustard Seed Distress ink for the darker yellow.

With the stencil still in place, apply the Nuvo Glimmer paste with a palette knife. It goes on quite smoothly; just apply it thinly, like you’re spreading butter onto toast! I did the glimmer paste heavier at the bottom, and getting lighter towards the top – tapering off before the top of the panel.  Now, set you panel aside for the paste to dry, and clean off your stencil.

While your glimmer paste is drying, it’s time to create your focal image and sentiment strip. On a separate piece of white cardstock, stamp the dog and pedestal in Versafine Clair  Nocturne ink. Set the ink with a heat tool, and the colour the images. For colouring, I used my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers in Sand and Natural Brown for the dog’s body, Dusty Pink & Peach for inside his ear & mouth. For the pedestal I used Stampin’ Blends markers in Cherry Cobbler and Bermuda Bay.

Once you’re finished colouring, die cut the images with the coordinating Best in Show dies.  Stamp the sentiment from the Best in Show stamp set onto a strip of white cardstock in the Nocturne ink. Cover it with clear embossing powder, and heat set.

Attach the pedestal with liquid glue, and then the dog on top of it, with foam tape or squares. Attach the sentiment strip across the top, with more foam tape. Now attach this panel to a panel of dark turquoise cardstock with foam tape, and then a card base of lighter blue.

Stamp the Birthday sentiment from Studio Katia on the inside of the card (on a panel of white cardstock) with a dark turquoise ink.

I just love how the sun rays ‘spotlight’ the dog on his pedestal! Can you hear the choir of angels singing? *wink*  My husband loves dogs, so he’ll love this card.

Do you have a ‘top dog’ or best in show in your family who would appreciate a card like this? I bet you do! This stamp set & dies is so versatile; I’ve gotten a lot of use out of it, and I’ve only had it for a couple of months. That’s what I call money well spent.  If you’d like to get this stamp set and/or dies for yourself, I’ve included some links below for some retail therapy. *wink* (you’re welcome)

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)

    1. You will love this glitter gel, Susan! It’s so sparkly, and applies so easily. Cleans up easily, too! I’m glad you liked my card – Al liked it, too 🙂
