Foiling Technique Using Sticky Embossing Powder

FOILING TECHNIQUE USING STICKY EMBOSSING POWDER

Hello again stamping friend! This is my companion post to my ‘Try Adding Foiling Fun Without Extra Tools!’ post. If you missed that, you’ll definitely want to CLICK HERE to see it! In that post, I showed you how to use the Ranger Shiny Foil Transfer Sheets with double sided adhesive tape. In this post, just as the title says, I’ll be sharing the foiling technique using Sticky Embossing Powder. Yes, that is the actual name of the embossing powder – you don’t have to do anything to turn regular embossing powder sticky!

LET’S GET STARTED

First, choose your sentiment or image that you want to foil. I chose a sentiment from the Concord & 9th Birthday Basics Turnabout Stamp. Now, ink up your stamp with Versamark ink – make sure your pad is nice and ‘juicy’, so your stamp is well covered. Stamp directly onto your cardstock, and then immediately cover with the Sticky Embossing Powder. Set the powder with your heat tool. You’ll be able to tell when it’s heated, because it will turn from a dull white to a clear, shiny look. This is how you know that the powder is now sticky.

Now, lay your foil sheet on top of your sticky image, and burnish it firmly. This is what transfers the foil to the sticky image.

You can see that in some areas, the foil didn’t stick 🙁 I believe this is because I chose a very curvy sentiment, and when removing the foil backing, it was pulling in a direction not the same as the curve. I did go back and try adding the foil again, but I think the sticky wasn’t sticky enough. Either that, or my sticky embossing powder could be too old, and has lost some of it’s effectiveness.

In any event, you can still read the sentiment, and after all – this is a hand made card!

COMPLETE THE CARD

The sentiment is die cut with a scalloped circle die, and attached with foam tape to a panel of retired Lawn Fawn paper. I used a combination of circle dies and punches of different sizes to add some fun to the card front. They are added with a combination of liquid glue and foam squares, for varied dimension.  Finally, the front panel is added to a light blue cardstock base.
