For the Birds Scrap 'N Stamp Blog Hop

Welcome to our For the Birds Scrap ‘N Stamp blog hop for September! Time has flown, so it’s time for the birds to fly, too. This month’s blog hop is all about birds – any kind, doing what birds do. I’m sure you’ll enjoy all of the amazing projects each of us in the Design Team have created, so let’s get started.

FOR THE HUMMINGBIRDS

Luckily for us here where I live in B.C., we have hummingbirds all year long! I love to watch them come to the feeder that I have strategically placed outside the window in my kitchen. And yes, my desk does just *happen* to be at this window! I did take some artistic license with the colours of the hummingbirds on my card, and yes, I know that they aren’t usually attracted to wisteria. But hey – it’s my card, so I did what worked!

Aren’t they so pretty?! I wish that I could try capture the iridescent shimmer that their feathers have, in real life.

CARD DETAILS

Start with a panel of smooth white cardstock. Lay the Wisteria stencil from The Crafter’s Workshop (TCW) over the top. The stencil is a large 6″ x 6″, so I just positioned it to leave enough room for my hummingbirds. Next, use a blending tool to apply Milled Lavender and Seedless Preserves Distress Inks through the stencil. Now, remove the stencil, and position the two hummingbird stamps from the Impression Obsession Spring Elements stamp set where you want them. Stamp the birds in Nocturne ink, and then cover in clear embossing powder. Heat set the powder with a heat tool. Now you’re ready to colour the hummingbirds! I chose some of my Copic markers, and then added some gold highlights with a Gelly Roll pen. You can see the highlights a bit better in the close up photo, below.

In real life, when you turn the cardstock, the gold ‘flashes’, just like the colours in the real birds!

ADD LAYERS

For the sentiment, use the MFT Sweet Hello die and cut the word from the Memory Box Graceful Garden glitter cardstock pack. Layer your front panel onto the same glitter cardstock with foam tape, and then glue it all down to a bright green card base. Attach the die cut sentiment with liquid glue, or glue dots.

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)
