Today is a big day! I’d like to wish a Happy 90th Birthday to my Dad. Yup, 90 years here on planet earth – how amazing is that? Modern science has kept him going strong through a triple heart bypass, heart valve replacement, and broken hip repair, just to name some of the ‘big’ medical issues he’s dealt with. I know that I’m very fortunate to have him around still, and that my 2 sons have gotten to spend a lot of time with their Grandpa.
HAPPY 90th BIRTHDAY CARD
Of course, a milestone birthday requires a BIG card! I used a 5″ x 7″ card base, and went from there.
I pulled out some ‘oldies but goodies’ – appropriate, eh? – from the Stampin’ Up paper to the MFT Make a Wish stamp & die set.
CARD DETAILS
I went with bright & bold colours, because it is a fun celebration, after all! Although his birthday is today (Monday) we got together and celebrate on Saturday.
The numbers for 90 are die cut using an old die set from Stampin’ Up, from retired paper with fun party hats all over it. I also layered this same paper between the bright green panels. The candles are stamped and then die cut using the MFT Make a Wish stamps & coordinating dies. Stamping with Versamark ink onto white cardstock, and then heat emboss with gold embossing powder. The sentiment is then die cut with the banner die.
To make the sentiment banner and the numbers stand out a bit more, die cut the shapes again from black cardstock, and glue them together. Slightly offset the die cuts, creating a drop shadow effect. Finally, layer all of the pieces onto the base layers, using foam tape or squares.
The sentiment inside is also from the stamp set, which says “You can never have too many candles”! Again – appropriate for a 90th birthday, right?
CELEBRATE EVERY DAY!
It’s not often you get to wish someone a Happy 90th Birthday, so I like to go with the thought of celebrating every day. Use the good dishes, enjoy dessert, and try out that thing you always wanted to do! Make the life in your years count, not the years in your life.
Thanks for stopping in with me today – now go do something else that you like!
What a sweet card!! Happy birthday to your dad!
