Happy Birthday Slimline Card

This past Monday was my first-born’s birthday, so I made him this Happy Birthday slimline card! He was quite impressed, with all of the die cuts and layering, and quite liked it, I’m happy to say! I had fun creating it, and used the Picket Fence Studios Slim Line Die Cutting System dies for the base.

Once I knew what I wanted the base to look like, next I decided on the individual die cuts. Because it’s for a birthday, I went with elements from the fun Pretty Pink Posh Happy New Year set.

Actually, I used a few different sets, and stencils to create this card. Why buy a card for $8 when you can make it with $125 in supplies, right?! LOL!  If you ever sell your hand crafted cards, keep that info in mind!

My son likes blue, so that was my main colour scheme. I decided on the dark blue card base, and then die cut the light blue overlay, creating 3 square stitched windows, with the PFS Slim Line Dies. Next, die cut a piece of white cardstock, to layer behind the windows.

Create the background by applying Broken China Distress Oxide with the MFT Confetti Stencil set. Next, set up the stenciled panel in your MISTI, and overlay the window piece, without adhesive. Set up the sentiment stamp – the Studio Katia Mini Birthday Greeting – and then remove the window overlay. Stamp the sentiment in Nocturne ink.  Cover it with clear embossing powder, and set with a heat tool. Now, glue the two layers together.

On separate white cardstock, stamp the glasses, champagne bottle, party hat & horn in Nocturne ink, from the PPP Happy New Year set. Use your favourite colouring medium – I chose alcohol markers, in a mix of Copic and Spectrum Noir.  Add some highlights to the images with a white gel pen. Now, use the coordinating dies to die cut each image, with  your Big Shot.  Use foam tape or squares to attach all of the die cuts to the card front, and add a few embellishments.

All of the coloured elements and dimension add extra fun to this card! And this size fits in a standard envelope that you can pick up in bulk at the dollar store.

I hope that you enjoyed seeing today’s slimline birthday card as much as my son did receiving it! The supplies needed to recreate this card are all linked below. I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)

    1. I’m glad that you like the birthday card, Buffy! (and I think I lowballed the actual cost of all the supplies…. 😉 )

I love to read what you have to say! Thanks for commenting ;)
