It was my Dad’s 88th birthday this weekend, and we celebrated with a family dinner. Of course, you have to say ‘Happy Birthday’ with cake – it’s just not a birthday without it! I created this fun card for him, which has a HUGE cake on the front, so it was perfect.
This is another stamp set that I found while do my de-stash clearing, recently. The sad news is that it’s now retired, and not available in their online store. It’s by Art Impressions, and it’s called Eat Itself. You’ll see why, in a minute!
This is one of Art Impressions (Ai) stamps that they called ‘inside out’ stamps. That’s because part of the stamp set is meant for the outside, while the 2nd part is meant for the inside.
CARD FRONT DETAILS
First, let’s talk about the card front details. The details for inside are minimal, and mostly the same. Stamp the image in Nocturne ink. Cover with clear embossing powder, and heat set. Next, choose your alcohol markers to colour the image. I used a variety; Spectrum Noir Illustrator (Sand and Natural Brown); Spectrum Noir Tri-Blend (Bright Pink Blend, Light Green Blend) and Copic (Lipstick Red and Phthalo Blue). For the dots, use those images from the Altenew Layered Cupcake stamp set, stamped in red. The confetti is from the Concord & 9th Birthday Basics Turnabout stamp set, stamped in blue. The sentiment is from a retired Stampin’ Up! set, stamped in Nocturne ink.
Create a card base from dark blue cardstock, and layer a strip of bright patterned paper down the left hand side. Layer the image panel onto a piece of fun foam, or use foam tape, and attach it to the front. Now, let’s take a look at the inside!
Here is the other part of the image – isn’t that fun!?
Now you see where the title of the stamp set comes from! Line up the image in the bottom right hand corner of the white cardstock panel. Stamp in Nocturne ink, and heat emboss with clear embossing powder. Use the same markers to colour the image as are used for the front image. After all – this is just the face of the same lady from the front of the card!
Stamp the sentiment from the Eat Itself stamp set in Nocturne, setting it with clear embossing powder. Repeat stamp the dots and confetti, around the sentiment.
My Dad had a good laugh at the card, and of course wanted to know when were we bringing out that huge cake! (we had a smaller one).
HAVE FUN WITH BIRTHDAYS
I always try to match the birthday card with the recipient; whether it’s a theme they like, or saying. Before I started making my own cards, I would spend ages in a card store, looking for ‘just the right card’ (and often laughing out loud to myself, which brought odd looks my way. probably best that I make my own cards, now!).
Whether you celebrate a birthday with a hand made or store bought card, just make sure you say Happy Birthday with Cake!
