Happy Canada Day 2019!

It’s July 1st, which means Happy Canada Day, 2019! 

How’s this for a patriotic moose?! Last year I won a special Canada Day draw from Scrap ‘N Stamp – which is a proudly Canadian company! Of course, I received this pack of die cuts after Canada Day, so here I am, using them this year! And isn’t it just kismet that I’m now on the Scrap ‘N Stamp Canada Design Team? It was meant to be, right?

CARD DETAILS

I did absolutely no stamping or die cutting on this card! It was the quickest card I have ever made. The pack of die cuts from Photo Play are just so cute, and completely ready to use. Just add adhesive – which is what I did.

First, create a card base of heavy white cardstock. Add a layer of red cardstock – of course, our Canadian flag is red and white. Next, add a layer of white cardstock, and then attach the scalloped frame on top. Now, add the framed flag holding moose in the middle. Finally, add the two banners; the O, Canada in the top left, and the date in the bottom right. Everything is attached using foam tape or foam squares, for added dimension.

This Photo Play pack of die cuts has so many iconic Canadian images, including of course the beaver, a map of Canada, several “Eh!!” tags, and more. I highly recommend this if you like to make & send patriotic Canada cards to your family and friends – say in places that aren’t quite as lovely as Canada? (just kidding – no hate mail, please!)

OH, CANADA

Just like potato chips, I couldn’t stop at just one card! This next card is all stamping, again in red & white.

Funnily enough, this is another prize I won online! This stamp set is from Scrapbook & Cards Today, and as you can see is also full of iconic Canadian images. It also comes with a set of 3 dies, but I didn’t use any of them on this card.

CARD DETAILS

First, set up your white cardstock panel in your MISTI, or other stamping platform. Arrange the stamps to cover half of the panel; I chose 6 of the 8 images to use. Close the platform lid to pick up the stamps, and ink them up with red ink. Stamp down onto your cardstock. You may have to do it twice, to get complete coverage (I did – just leave the stamps in place, and cover again with the red ink).

Next, turn your cardstock 180 degrees, so that you can stamp the other half. Ink up the stamps with red ink, and stamp.  Clean and remove the stamps from the stamp platform.

Now create your sentiment strip. Place a strip of white cardstock into your stamp platform, and line up the words. Close the platform to pick up the stamps, and cover them with red ink. Stamp onto the cardstock, re inking and stamping if necessary. Clean off the stamps, and the cover them with Versamark ink. Stamp on top of the red inked words, and then cover with clear embossing powder. Remove the cardstock from the stamp platform, and heat set the embossing powder.

To create the layers for this card, die cut a medium square from the middle of the stamped panel. Next, die cut a slightly larger square from red cardstock. Attach the red cardstock square over the die cut opening on the panel with liquid glue. Now, attach the die cut, stamped square in the middle, with foam tape.  Attach the panel to a red card base, and then attach the sentiment strip across the middle on a diagonal, with foam tape.

Just a bit of stamping, embossing and layering, for a fun card!
