Ink Blending with Polychromos Pencil Details

Welcome to Friday, my friend! Today I have a fun card for you, using an idea that was recently shared by the talented Gina Krupsy, of Gina K. Designs! I know I’ve shared lots of projects with ink blending, but this one has a little twist to it. This card is ink blending with Polychromos pencil details! You’ll be amazed at the impact of just a little bit of shading with a pencil over ink blending. Let’s get to it!

INK BLENDING WITH POLYCHROMOS PENCILS

Isn’t that pretty?! Just think of all the different colours you could use – your imagination is the limit.

CARD DETAILS

First, set up your panel of white cardstock in your MISTI, or other stamp platform. Line up the large floral image from the Altenew set Everlasting Happiness stamp set in the bottom right corner. Ink it up and stamp in Versamark ink. Cover the image with white embossing powder, and heat set.

Now, return your panel to the MISTI, and remove the large floral stamp. Set up the smaller floral stamp in the top left corner, and stamp it in Versamark ink. Repeat the white embossing powder & heat setting.  Go back and re position the stamp, so that you can stamp the flowers again just below the first one. Again, repeat the stamping & embossing process. Now you can remove your panel, and get ready for the colouring.

Use a Picket Fence Studios Life Changing Blender Brush, and apply Spiced Marmalade Distress ink over the embossed images. Start darker in the corners, and gradually get lighter towards the edges of the embossed images. Do this for both the top & bottom images.

Now, for adding the pencil details. Use the #111 Cadmium Orange Polychromos pencil, and add shading to each of the petals, one at a time. Keep the colour darker towards the middle of the flowers, and gradually get lighter, letting the ink blending take over for the tops of the petals.  In the photo below, you can see the detail of the pencil shading, and ink blending.

For the leaves, use #163 Emerald Green and #184 Dark Naples Ochre for the smallest flowers and the large flower centers.

FINISH OFF YOUR CARD

Once the colouring and details are done, stamp the sentiment from the Gina K. Heartfelt Hydrangea stamp set in Versafine Clair Nocturne ink. Cover with clear embossing powder, and heat set. Now, attach your finished panel to a black cardstock panel with foam tape, and then onto a card base that coordinates with your large flower ink colour.

The heat embossing, with the ink blending and Polychromos pencil details, add a lot of dimension to this card. All without adding extra layers!

ADD PENCIL DETAIL TO YOUR CARDS!

The most important part of adding pencil detail to your cards is this – use a SHARP PENCIL!! This gives you the best colour, and lets you easily get into the littlest areas to add shading.
