Long Time Friends are Best

If you’ve been reading my posts for any length of time, you’ve probably heard me mention my BFF Susan. She’s the reason behind the ‘long time friends are best’ title of this post, because we’ve been friends since we were in high school, before graduation, even! That puts our friendship at over 40 years, and still going strong. As I joke with her – she’s been with me through  thick & thin – literally!, and she’ll always be my friend, because she knows too much! LOL!  Anyway, as you can image, we’ve had some adventures together as well, and we both have different character strengths. Which brings up the sentiment I chose for today’s card – it’s from the MFT Sassy Pants Best Friends stamp set.

I’m pretty sure that she would argue this with me about her being the ‘bad’ influence – and I’d probably have to agree with her! *wink* We always have lots of laugh reminiscing about our ‘misspent’ youth. And honestly – I’m still working on having a happy childhood, so….there’s no end in sight for more adventures!

This card came together very quickly, because I found this bokeh background panel that I had created a while ago! To make this type of background is quite easy. First, cut a panel of white cardstock. Blend on at least 2 colours of ink; it looks like this one has Pool Party and Pear Pizzazz lightly blended together. Next, create your own stencil with a few different sizes of circles either punched or die cut from it. Hold the stencil in place over the panel, and blend white craft ink lightly in the circles. Doing this creates a bokeh effect, which is a term from photography, which is is the pleasing or aesthetic quality of out-of-focus blur in a photograph.

Next, use the My Favorite Things Wine Glass Shaker Window Die with a Big Shot, and die cut the glass shape from the left side of the panel. Also die cut the glass shape from a piece of champagne coloured foil cardstock.

To create the look of wine (or champagne) in the glass, I blended a bit of SU! So Saffron ink with my Life Changing Blender Brush onto a panel of white cardstock, on the area where the wine glass cutout will layer.  Next, I stamped some small dots in the ‘wine’ and above the wine glass cut out on the bokeh panel, both in Versamark ink. I then covered the dots in clear embossing powder and set it with a heat tool. This gives a subtle effect of bubbles.

The last step for the front panel is to stamp the sentiment from the MFT Sassy Pants Best Friends stamp set in Versafine Clair Nocturne ink, cover it with clear embossing powder, and set it.

Now you can layer the pieces together. First, attach the bokeh panel to the white cardstock panel with foam tape. Next, insert the die cut glass in the opening, attaching with with foam tape on the back.  Attach both front panels to a light blue card base.

To finish off the card, I added some Clear Droplets and rhinestones from Pretty Pink Posh, to enhance the look of bubbles. I didn’t photograph it, but on the inside, I stamped another of the sentiments, which says ‘You’re My Sidekick for Life’!

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)
