Love Is In The Air

LOVE IS IN THE AIR!

It’s exactly one month until Valentine’s Day! Do you make cards for this day? As a card maker, I know I should be all over it, but ‘meh’. We don’t go ‘big’ for Valentine’s anymore in my house. I do usually make one for my hubby, but that’s it. However, right now Scrap ‘N Stamp is having a Love is in the Air challenge on their Facebook page, so I decided to jump in, and make a card early!

Love Is In The Air

LOVE YOU A WHOLE SLOTH – ER, A WHOLE LOT!

Once again, I pulled out my uber cute Sloth-some stamp set from Art Impressions. What can I say – I’m crushing on sloths 😉  This time I used one of the other sentiments, which is perfect for Valentine’s Day, or anniversary, or even just because.

Love Is In The Air

I know I’ve said it before – but isn’t this just the cutest stamp set? I think I was inspired by the floating hearts in the challenge picture, so I added some stenciled hearts to my background.

CARD FRONT DETAILS

Start with a panel of white cardstock. Stamp the sloth image in Memento Tuxedo Black ink. Stamp the image again onto masking paper, and cut it out by hand. Mask off the stamped image on the panel. Lay your heart stencil over the panel, holding it in place with some of that fabulous Purple Tape.

Next, use your favourite blending tool to blend on the Picked Raspberry Distress Ink. Once you’re happy with the colouring, remove the stencil, and then remove the mask from the sloth image. Voila! You now have floating hearts behind your sloth 🙂 Congratulate yourself on how clever you are, while you’re choosing your markers to colour the sloth and heart.

Sloths are a lovely blends of shades of brown, so be sure to use more than one colour. I used my SU! Blends Markers in Ivory, and Crumb Cake Light & Dark. I went over the image several times, until I was happy with the blending. Next, colour in the heart. Keep in mind that it’s a big heart that he’s squeezing – probably a balloon, so give it some highlights and shaded areas. I again used my SU! Blends, in Cherry Cobbler Light & Dark, as well as Petal Pink Light.

Look at that face! Don’t you just wanna give him a squish?!

MORE DETAILS ON THE CARD FRONT

Use the Big Shot with a small heart die, and die cut 2 hearts; one from red and one from dark pink cardstock. On the dark pink heart, stamp the sentiment from the Sloth-some stamp set in Versamark ink, and cover it with white embossing powder. Shake off any excess powder, and then set it with a heat tool.

Layer the 2 hearts together with foam squares, and then attach it to the image panel. Add some metallic silver hearts in the middle of the stenciled hearts, and one the sentiment heart.

Next, layer the image panel onto a panel of dark pink with foam tape. Finally, add the card front panels onto a white card base.

WASN’T THAT FUN?!

Now, wasn’t that fun!? You got to do some stenciling, stamping, masking and colouring! All that and what a great card (if I do say so myself!). I hope you had as much fun following along, as I did creating. Maybe you’d like to join the Scrap ‘N Stamp challenge as well?  You do have to have a Facebook account to enter, and add your project to their challenge page. But it’s fun! There’s a new challenge each month, and if your card is randomly selected, you win a gift card from them.

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)

    1. Thanks, Buffy! I’m glad you like the sloth too 🙂 It was a fun card to create, with the masking & stenciled background.
