This seems to be a question I’m asking myself a lot lately! Do I love it, or trash it? Trying something new usually ends up in a lot of ‘trash it’ results. On the other hand, you don’t want to give up too easily. This is one of those cards that I can’t decide if I should’ve given up on! Let me know what you think.
THE ORIGINAL PLAN
Okay, so you know I’ve been learning & playing a lot with alcohol inks lately. I haven’t used the Alcohol Lift Ink in a while (you can see examples where I used in HERE). Previously, I used it with stencils. This time, I thought I’d try it with a stamp.
To start, I poured & blew 3 colours of alcohol ink onto a panel of Yupo. I chose Ranger Flamingo, Wild Plum and Amethyst, to use with the Botan Peony stamp by Picket Fence Studios. Next, I set up the panel in my MISTI, inked up the stamp with the Alcohol Lift Ink, and stamped several times. Well, I thought it would work, because the lines on the stamp are quite thick. It’s not an intricate detail stamp. But – it just looked like a hot mess. I was ready to trash it.
PLAN B
I liked the colours, so I thought I’d try to cover up the poor lifting. I stamped the Botan Peony image in Nocturne ink onto Vellum, and heat set it. Then, after hand cutting, I laid it over where I tried the ink lift. *ugh* Nope – definitely do not love it. Again, ready to trash it. My Scottish heritage didn’t want me to waste a piece of Yupo (I’m ‘thrifty’, not ‘cheap’! LOL). So….
PLAN C
If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again! That’s the saying, right?! Okay – so here it is.
I set up the panel into the MISTI again, and stamped the peony in StazOn ink. When stamping onto alcohol inks, and a non porous surface like Yupo, you have to use an alcohol based ink. And I only have StazOn in black – so there it is.
Adding more lipstick to this pig, I added some foil in the areas where the ink was still ‘sticky’. Then, the sentiment from MFT Well, Hello stamp set was added onto a strip across the bottom.
WELL – DO YOU LOVE IT?
Or should I have trashed it? Cut my losses, so to speak! Maybe ‘love’ is too strong of word; “it’s okay” would probably be the strongest sentiment I’d attach to it!
Well, now you know the truth! Real life disasters happen even in daily blogging life! I promise that I have much more appealing projects to share with you over the rest of this week! Thanks for hanging in there with me, if you’re still reading this!
