Hello again! I’ve had such an amazing response to the mixed media paintings that I shared last week, it’s incredible! If you missed the first 2, you can see them in THIS POST. Basically, what I do is prime an 8″ x 10″ canvas 2 coats of gesso. Next, I apply alcohol inks with blending solution and/or 99% isopropyl alcohol. When that is dry, I then apply the large temporary tattoo to the canvas. That’s how they start! So, I’m here to share 2 more mixed media paintings with you today.
RAINBOW LION
This lion tattoo is one of the few that has colour in the tattoo; most of the others are just black & white. So, I decided to create a ‘rainbow’ background for him! Not strictly rainbow – but some bright fun colours.
I think it worked pretty well – what do you think? For the background, I used a couple of blues, a pink and a green. I like how the blue & pink combined in a couple of areas to create the purple. Since it’s PRIDE month, I think this should be my PRIDE lion!
WOLF IN THE SHADOWS
This wolf tattoo is in black & white, and I wanted to keep the background rather muted. It went a little too dark on the right hand side, but I think it gives the wolf the appearance of looking out of the darkness.
What do you think – does it work?
FINISHING THEM OFF
I’ve done my first coat of Kamar Varnish on these 2 paintings, plus the 2 I did last week. This varnish seals the inks. After a couple more coats, I’ll be ready to coat them with resin. One thing I’m pondering, is whether to add some embellishments to some of them. Maybe some crystals, small crushed glass or stones? I’ll lay them out & see what I think, before committing!
Once they’re finished, I’ll be putting them for sale in my Shop. Be sure to check out what’s there already! Just CLICK HERE, or on the Shop tab in the top menu bar.
Oh, my, Deborah! These are amazing. The wolf is wonderful, but that lion! I love the colors on the lion and the background you created. Beautiful!
That lion is spectacular. So elegant and powerful.
Thanks so much, Jackie! I’m glad that you like the lion 🙂
