I hope you’ve been enjoying a creative week! Honestly, I’ve spent more time this week doing a ‘Marie Condo’ on various areas of my house, than I have on creating. Let me tell you – as much as it needs being done, I’d much rather be creating, than de-cluttering! Anyway, did fit in some time to finish off this fun Optical Illusion piece that I have to share with you today.
OPTICAL ILLUSION TUNNEL
Is it a tunnel, or spiral? I think it’s a tunnel, but let me know what you think! I just had to do it traditional black & white, to enhance that ‘falling in’ feeling.
When I look at this piece, I get an Alice in Wonderland feeling! By the way – at the bottom left corner of the piece, that’s my reflection in the shine of the resin – not scratches on the art!
DETAILS
This is another of the 3D printed frames that I used, on an 8″ x 8″ x 1″ wood cradle board. If you missed the other frame designs I’ve used, you can see the Celtic Knot HERE, and the Flowers & Butterflies HERE.
First, I primed the front & sides of the cradle board. Next, I applied a thin layer of clear resin on the top, and laid the frame on top of it. I then allow it to cure overnight; this secures the frame to the cradle board, and it becomes part of the design.
The next steps are pretty obvious – adding the black tinted and white tinted mica one at a time. One colour is done at a time, allowed to cure, and then the 2nd colour added. After those have cured, I then cleaned up the sides, and painted them with black acrylic paint.
Looking at it from this angle makes me feel like I could walk into the tunnel!
FINAL LOOK
I’d love to do a larger version of this – couldn’t you just see the fun in having one of these 3D tunnel frames in say 24″ x 24″ or larger, on your wall?! I wonder how many of your guests would walk into it (or try)? Here’s another look, from the other angle.
This angle is not quite as sharp, so the effect isn’t as pronounced.
I’ll be listing this piece in my online Shop HERE by the weekend. Be sure to click the link, and check out all of the fabulous art pieces that are available for purchase!
This is so fun! What a great piece. And you’re right – it does give an Alice in Wonderland feeling!
