This is only the second card I’ve made with the December 2019 My Monthly Hero Kit. The sad news is that this kit is now sold out on the Hero Arts site. Lots of the add-on’s are still available, though! I don’t know the ‘official’ name of this kit, but I’m calling it our precious world. I think it’s very poignant, and timely, given what’s happening at this time. Of course our hearts are all breaking for Australia; we have to hope for the best outcome possible, while supporting them with donations & help. In the meantime, we have to remain vigilant about keeping up conservation practices everywhere, and reducing our footprint on this earth.
EARTH GODDESS
In the kit description, Hero Arts calls this image ‘earth goddess’, which I think is pretty appropriate. If mother earth were personified, I think she’d be happy with this image!
Isn’t this a gorgeous image? Embodying flora and fauna, sky and water is how it appears to me. To that end, I tried to keep my colours soft and natural.
CARD DETAILS
I really wanted this image to stand out, so I set up a panel of watercolour paper in my MISTI, and stamped in Versamark ink. To ensure good ink coverage on the textured paper, I inked & stamped 3 times. Next, remove the panel, and cover it with gold embossing powder. Set the powder with a heat tool. I first did the Earth goddess image, then put the panel back in the MISTI, and repeated the same steps to add the dove landing in her hand.
To add soft water colouring, use either actual watercolour paints, or like I did, use Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers and a water brush. First, wet an area of the image. Next, add a bit of colour with the marker. Then, use the water brush again to spread the colour. Doing a little at a time, and going back to add more colour for shading is the key.
I left off any sentiment, because every time I would start to add one, it just seemed to take away from the impact of the image. So, no sentiment today!
LAYER YOUR FINISHED PANEL
Attach your finished panel to a panel of gold metallic cardstock, with fun foam or foam tape. Next, attach it with glue to a dark blue card base.
As far as capturing the colours, I think that the photo above is the best. With an indirect angle, I was able to capture the colours, without the shine of the gold embossing throwing off the balance.
I hope that you’ve enjoyed today’s card! I certainly enjoyed creating it. Water colouring I find is a soothing past time. However you’re spending your day, I hope that you have some time to create.
