Welcome back, stampers, to another sketch challenge with the Paper Craft Crew!

Paper Craft Crew DT Badge

This week we have another great sketch for you – have a look:

It has some interesting details and shapes, don’t you think?  It really inspired me to try something new & different, and since I just received my new Happy Patterns Decorative Masks, I used them in my card!

PCCCS157 decorative masks

I had to experiment a bit, but I’m really happy with how it turned out!

After taping down my mask over the Whisper White cardstock panel, I decided that I wanted to do an ‘ombre’ effect, and thought the quickest way to do this would be to use my Brayer.  Well, I wasn’t quite satisfied with that, because the Brayer only hit the centre of each of the diamond shapes, and I wanted them filled with colour.  So, I switched to my Sponge Daubers, and filled in the openings.  From the top to bottom, I used Mint Macaron, Lost Lagoon and Marina Mist inks.

For the panel on the right, I took a piece of Mint Macaron cardstock, and this time I used Versamark Ink to add the design.  Then I covered the Versamark in Clear Embossing Powder and heat set it using the Heat Tool; adding colour, without using colour!

I also decided to change up the shape; instead of using a circle shape for the main image, I used my Squares Framelits Dies and cut 1 from Whisper White cardstock, and a slightly larger one from Silver Glimmer paper.  On the Whisper White, I used the splotches image from the Awesomely Artistic stamp set and stamped them first in Marina Mist, then in Mint Macaron.  I inked up the dragonfly image using my Stampin’ Write Markers in Lost Lagoon and Marina Mist, and stamped onto a piece of Whisper White, then cut it out by hand.  I attached the 2 squares, first turning them on their side to mimic the diamond shape from the Decorative Mask, then wrapped a piece of the 1/8″ Silver Ribbon down the left side.

The sentiment and frame, also both from the Awesomely Artistic set, were stamped in Marina Mist and Mint Macaron.  I layered this using Stampin’ Dimensionals, then added the bow of 1/8″ Silver Ribbon, and a triangle of Silver Glimmer Paper.  I then attached 2 more triangles (made by punching a 1″ Square and cutting it in half) above the top right of the stamped panel to finish off the card.

I hope I’ve inspired you to try something different – and to join in the challenge!  Head over to the Paper Craft Crew page, check out what the rest of the design team have created, and get stamping on your own card!  Taking part in challenges is a fabulous way to get your creative juices flowing, and pushing you outside of your regular comfort zone – something we all need to do from time to time!

I hope I’ll see your card in this week’s challenge; until next time – happy stamping!

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)

I love to read what you have to say! Thanks for commenting ;)
