Welcome to the 1st sketch challenge of the year with the Paper Craft Crew!
I hope you had a fun beginning to the New Year, and are looking forward to more fun, with us!
This week we’re starting you off with a nice & easy sketch challenge:
Of course, I had just had to go rogue, and made my focal panel and almost full-card front! I just couldn’t help myself – I wanted to show off this fun new set that you can get for FREE during SALE-A-BRATION!
This set is called ‘Hey Chick‘, and it has the 3 delightful chicken images, along with a partially cracked egg (with feet, no less!) and several sentiments.
I started with a card base of Pumpkin Pie cardstock, then added a panel of Daffodil Delight cardstock.
I took the new Hexagons Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, and inked up the ‘raised’ side using the Basic Gray ink pad. Then, I placed my panel of Whisper White cardstock inside the folder, closed it, and ran my hands back & forth over the embossing folder, pressing hard enough to transfer the ink from the folder, to the cardstock.
In this case, I just wanted the pattern of the hexagons, as I think it looks a lot like chicken wire! This Dynamic embossing folder is like the Cable Knit one from the Holiday catalogue; to use it as it’s meant, you spritz the cardstock lightly, then emboss, for a really deep impression.
After transferring the hexagon pattern, I stamped the 3 chickens in Archival Black ink. I then used the new Watercolour Pencils in Daffodil Yellow, Pumpkin Pie and Real Red, and a Blender Pen to colour the chickens. I just love the funky feathers on the middle one; I used both Pumpkin Pie and Real Red to colour the feathers, as she reminds me of how the ‘punk rockers’ (back in my day) used to colour their hair and have it sticking up all over the place 🙂 To create the ground, I used my Blender Pen to pick up some Crumb Cake ink from the case lid, and dragged it randomly across and underneath the chickens.
To finish off the card front, I attached a piece of Burlap Ribbon, and a strip of Real Red cardstock to the upper right hand side. I stamped the sentiment in Archival Black ink onto Whisper White, then die cut it and the Pumpkin Pie piece behind it using the Big Shot and the Tags & Labels Framelits Dies.
I couldn’t help but giggle a bit as I was creating this card – as I said, I think these chickens are such fun, and I know I’ll be using them a lot.
Now you’ll want to head over to the Paper Craft Crew blog page, and check out the fabulous cards the rest of the Design Team have created! Then be sure to link up your card for the challenge; since the holidays are over, we’re back to 1 week challenges!
To order any of the products used in my card, you can simply click on the images below, and you’ll be taken directly to my online store. Or, contact me and I’ll be happy to order for you.
Until next time – happy stamping!
