My friend, I need your help! I think I’ve made a decision, but then I start waffling back & forth again. Please help me decide which of these 2 pieces to submit for a group project. Or perhaps I should trash both, and start over again! Trust me, that’s an option I’m weighing, as well.
THE BACK STORY
A few weeks ago, a member of an alcohol ink group I belong to asked if anyone would like to contribute to a project. Each person is to create a 5″ x 5″ alcohol ink project on Yupo, with the overall theme being ‘hope’. Then, each piece will be place inside one large frame, as part of a collage. This large collage will then be auctioned as part of a fundraiser.
I did a quick poll on my business Facebook page for the image, and the overall winner was a lighthouse, with dragonfly coming in second. So first, here is my lighthouse project. The concept is that it’s a stormy night, with the light of the lighthouse being a beacon of hope, for a safe harbour ahead.
The next one I made is with the dragonfly image. Traditionally, the dragonfly is associated with the symbolism of change, and light.
I created the background, and then used stencils to trace the dragonflies. The bodies are painted in Mined alloy ink, and then splatters added.
SIDE BY SIDE
Here’s a picture of them side-by-side. Maybe that will help you, help me decide?
So, can you please help me to decide? Should I submit one, or scrap them both and start over? You won’t hurt my feelings; obviously I’m ambivalent about both! And I do have almost a month before I need to mail my submission.
Thanks in advance for your help! If you like the concept of one, but have suggestions on how to improve (or what to change when I start over) I’m open to hearing what you suggest!
