Poignant Poppies Scrap ‘N Stamp Blog Hop

Welcome to our November Poignant Poppies Scrap ‘N Stamp Blog Hop! Since Remembrance Day is coming up, we thought we’d share projects made with poppy stamps. There are so many beautiful ones available! Our Design Team members are so creative (humble brag) that I’m sure you’ll find tons of inspiration.

INSPIRING POPPIES

I chose the lovely Gina K. Designs Inspiring Poppies stamp set as my feature set. Along with several great sentiments, it has a beautiful bouquet of poppies image.

I decided to combine my projects with a Remembrance Day theme. It turned out a bit trickier than I thought, trying to choose how to work them together.

CARD DETAILS

I finally decided on an image to download from the internet; that of the soldier. To transfer the image, use graphite paper,and trace it onto a white cardstock panel, and then colour in the silhouette with a basic black Sharpie.  After that, stamp the poppies image in Nocturne ink. Cover them with clear embossing powder, and heat set. Now you can colour the poppies with your favourite medium. I chose a combination of markers and coloured pencils. The markers gave darker definition as well as the green stems. Two shades of red gave more depth to the poppies. After colouring, use a blender brush to apply Broken China Distress Oxide ink around the edges of the panel, leaving it white in the middle. Finally,  stamp the sentiment from the Penny Black Sympathy Sentiments stamp set in Nocturne ink, and heat emboss with clear embossing powder.

Finish off the card by layering the stamped panel onto a piece of red cardstock with foam tape, and then onto a light blue card base.

POPPIES ON VELLUM

For my next card, I created a background panel, and then overlaid the poppies on vellum.

I used the crosses image from the Heartfelt Creations Dogwood Chapel stamp set. Stamp them in a dark gray ink onto a white cardstock panel. Grave sites and crosses can be a difficult image, although we know that  a lot of brave soldiers lost their lives during, and after the war. To soften that, stamp the Gina K. Inspiring Poppies image twice onto a vellum panel in red and green ink. Cover with clear embossing powder and heat set; this will prevent the ink from smudging on the vellum.

To attach the vellum panel, I cut it 1/2″ longer than the background panel. Score 1/4″ on the top and bottom, and fold those back over the background panel. Tape into place. Now mount the panel with foam tape onto a dark red card base.  I left off any sentiment from this card, as I didn’t want to take away from the images.
