Rustic Charm with Country Home Stamp Set

If you missed my first play with the Country Home stamp set this week, you can SEE IT HERE. In that project, I didn’t use either of the containers in the stamp set. However, I love the rustic charm with the Country Home stamp set, and this charm is emphasized by the old fashioned milk can and jug images. The great thing about this set is that both containers and floral arrangements are interchangeable. This means that you can get twice the projects out of the one set!

You can see that in this project, I used the 2nd of the two floral arrangement images; I had used the other one in the earlier post. As a former florist, I get so excited to see some ‘old friends’ the Lotus seed pods, and the cotton branches!  I always loved using non-floral, but organic items in my arrangements; they give such interest & texture! It’s no different here, in the stamped image.

You’ll notice that there’s no sentiment on this card front. That’s because I wanted the image to hog the limelight!  Start with a panel of Whisper White cardstock, and stamp the jug image in Tuxedo Black Memento ink. Next, line up the arrangement image – either by eye, or using your Stamparatus or retired Stamp-a-ma-Jig (yes, I still have mine!) – and stamp in the same ink.

Colour the image with a Blender Pen, and pick up ink colours from the link of the ink pads. For the jug, use Mint Macaron. The Lotus Pods are in Soft Suede ink. For the leaves, use a combination of Pear Pizzazz and Granny Apple Green ink. The Blender Pen allows you to blend the colours together quite well. Shade just the part of the cotton where it joins the stem, with a bit of Gray Granite, very lightly. Colour the flowers with Grapefruit Grove blended lightly, and the berries with 2 layers of Grapefruit Grove (allow drying time between layers).

Add some spots to the background with the Timeless Textures stamp set. Stamp the spots in both Grapefruit Grove and Mint Macaron, stamping off once before stamping onto the panel. This gives a lighter spotted effect, so as not to take away from the focal image.

Cut a panel of Grapefruit Grove cardstock. Use the Big Shot with the Tin Tile Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder to emboss. Be sure to use the proper ‘sandwich’ of base plate and only 1 cutting plate. As well, be sure to spray a bit of water onto your cardstock with a Stampin’ Spritzer before embossing. This will loosen the cardstock fibres, and prevent any splitting or cracking of your cardstock during the embossing. It’s important to do this step, when using the Dynamic embossing folders!

Next, cut a panel of Share What You Love Specialty Designer Series Paper. Create your card base from Mint Macaron cardstock.  To put your card front together, first attach the embossed panel to the DSP panel, with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Next, attach your stamped panel on top of that, with more Dimensionals. Wrap Linen Thread twice around the left side of the panels, then tie it off with a bow near the  top. Now you can attach these front panels to your card base, with more Dimensionals.

This image could also be easily coloured with either our Stampin’ Blends, or Stampin’ Write Markers, or even with our Watercolour Pencils. I love using all of the different mediums! If you stamp onto Watercolour Paper, you could also watercolour the image with the Brusho Crystal Colours. The possibilities are endless! Just have fun, however you create.

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)
