LAYERS OF GOODNESS

Be warned – this post is photo heavy!! If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the AMAZING new dies from Memory Box! I just *had* to get some, and have created 2 cards to share with you. Both cards use 2 of the new dies, and are perfect for winter & holiday card making.

Okay – so the front looks pretty unassuming, right? Well, first let me point out the pretty paper! It’s from the American Crafts ‘Holiday’ 6″ x 6″ paper pack. The sentiment is from Penny Black’s Peaceful Season stamp set. Now, let’s move on to the main feature – the inside of the card!

It’s a TUNNEL CARD! Not to brag or anything, but I’m so happy with  how the colouring turned out!

CARD DETAILS

First of all, I sorta ‘cheated’ and used the new Photoplay Tunnel Card pack. This pack gives you all the pieces you need to make a tunnel card! No math, no extra cutting or scoring – it’s all done for you (except of course for whatever dies you want to use).  The background die is the Memory Box Tall Fir Collage, and the front one is the Lamplight Tree Collage die.  Use the Big Shot with the dies & the pieces of cardstock in your Tunnel Card pack. Next, flatten the die cuts and blend on the colours using a blending tool. For the trees, I used Distress inks in Shabby Shutters and Mowed Lawn. I also used Distress Oxide in Pine Needles. The blue background is done on the back of the card base, in Broken China Distress Oxide.  Colour the lamp post with alcohol markers in gray, yellow and orange.  Add some small snowflakes with a white gel pen.

Next, follow the directions included with the Tunnel Card pack, and assemble your card.  Here’s a close up, below, so you can see the layers.

LAYERS WITHOUT THE TUNNEL

I wanted to show you how you can also layer the die cuts, without the ‘extra fuss’ of creating a tunnel card. You still get lots of dimension, and a ‘wow’ card.

I kept this card more simple by die cutting both layers from Lawn Fawn Pixie Dust cardstock. Layer the 2 die cuts together, separating them with foam tape. This gives you extra dimension. Next, layer them on top of a piece of Tonic Glitter cardstock in Cobalt Blue. Isn’t that gorgeous?!  Talk about a sparkly winter wonderland! You could quickly do this if you need to make a lot of cards. Or, do the die cuts from white cardstock and colour them, like I did with the first card. Tunnel optional! Here’s a look, below, so you can see the dimension.

You could add a sentiment across the bottom of the card, or leave the sparkly beauty as is. Of course, you’ll be adding a sentiment & message to the inside.

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)
