Seas The Day Blog Hop

Hello friend, and welcome to our August Scrap ‘N Stamp Seas The Day Blog Hop! This month’s hop is all about the sea, ocean or beachside, where we love to spend our summers.  Actually, I love being by the water year-round, it’s always so inspiring!

SHUTTER CARD

I’ve always wanted to create a Shutter Card, but have always been too intimidated by the mechanics of it. So when I saw the Photoplay Shutter Card Kit in store at Scrap ‘N Stamp, I shouted a hallelujah and got busy!

You can tell from the belly band holding the card closed that there’s something special inside this card.

Do you have a sense of the theme? If the sea urchin on the card doesn’t give it away, then I’m sure the decorative shells do! Here’s a peek below at the inside, once you slide off the belly band.

As you open the card, you see the shutter start to open…..

….revealing the sentiment when the card is fully opened! How fun is that?!

CARD DETAILS

With the Photoplay Shutter Card Kit, you get all of the white card base pieces you need, to assemble 3 shutter cards.  All you need to add is your decorative papers and stamps!  The patterned paper I chose is from the Lavinia Dream Scape Paper Pack – Colourburst Collection.  All you need to do is measure the base pieces from the kit, and then cut the appropriate sizes to lay over the base pieces, before assembly.  Do the same with the coloured cardstock. Once you’ve glued on the papers, you’re ready to assemble. It’s so easy to follow the instructions that are included in the kit, that even I can do it!

I chose to create this fun card using the Hero Arts In A Pinch stamp set and In a Pinch Frame Cuts.  For the sea urchin on the front and inside, stamp directly onto paper from the Dream Scapes paper pad in Nocturne ink. Next, cover the stamping with clear embossing powder, and then heat set. For the pink shell inside, stamp in Versamark ink onto light pink cardstock. Cover the stamping with WOW Florida Sunset glitter embossing powder, and heat set.  Now, use the In a Pinch Frame Cuts with your Big Shot, and die cut each shell.

For the sentiment on the belly band, use one of the stamps from the In a Pinch stamp set and stamp on turquoise cardstock in Nocturne ink. Cover with clear embossing powder, and heat set. Next, use a stitched circle die for die cutting. To position your inside sentiment, lay the open shutter pieces over the inside of the card base piece, before attaching them.  That way you ensure that the sentiment can be read when the shutter opens.

When you’ve assembled your card, add a few Brutus Monroe Acrylic Bubbles and Picket Fence Studios Spiked Ocean Water Sequins to decorate!

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)
