I’ve had some time to work on my latest projects that I shared a week ago in THIS POST. I had received my order of new wood cut frames, and got to work. I’m really pleased with how this shattered glass look lantern has turned out! The laser cut wood is made to look like the glass has been shattered, then put back together. Using coloured resin to fill in the ‘glass’ areas, results in a beautiful stained glass look.
SHATTERED GLASS LANTERN
Each piece of this hexagon shaped lantern is laser cut from 1/8″ wood. It measures approximately 4.5″ across, and 5.25″ high.
In this photo above, I had placed a small battery operated tealight. Due to the nature of resin and wood, I DO NOT recommend live flame candles!
I did a combination of colour tinted resin and clear resin with coloured glitter. The tinted resins are Sunshine Yellow and Sailboat Blue; the coloured glitter are called Mossy Oak and Blue Iridescent. This next photo shows you the hexagon shape of the lantern.
After each panel is filled with resin and cured, they are then secured into the top & bottom forms, and then the solid form attached to the top.
LIGHT IT UP!
My small battery operated tea light was too small to have any effect in the photo, so I removed it, and put in a tiny string of mini lights. Look at this beautiful glow!
It’s really pretty in real life! With the flash, the blues don’t show up true to colour, but you get the idea of the effect.
IN MY SHOP NOW
This completed lantern is in my online Shop now, for you to claim as your own! I have only 1 more unfinished lantern to make, so if you’d like to request certain colours, email me now at thistledesigns.ca with your request!
I think that this lantern would make a beautiful accent piece for any time of year – and a great gift, too (hint, hint!).
MORE PROJECTS TO COME!
I’m also finishing my Honeycomb Wood Coasters, and the Welcome Sign. Stay tuned this week for those, as they’re added to my Shop, as well.
This is so beautiful, Deborah! I love the combination of the colored glitter and tinted resin. It makes a beautiful “stained glass” lantern.
So glad that you like my lantern, Buffy 🙂 I’m excited to say that it’s already sold! But I have another to make…
