SIMPLE STAMPING CHALLENGE

Welcome to Wednesday, stamping friend! We have a simple stamping challenge for you today with the Paper Craft Crew Design Team. I have to admit; whenever I hear ‘simple stamping’, my heart starts pounding and I break into a sweat. I can do simple stamping; but thinking about it makes me just want to add layer after layer! LOL! My friend Susan, on the other hand, is the queen of simple stamping – so I headed over to her blog for inspiration!

Simple stamping does not mean boring – not by any means! As in the description above, it means minimal layers and usually no embellishments. A card that someone who is new to stamping could create with some assistance. So, once I had calmed down, and decided to use a layout that Susan had used on one of her cards, I was good to go!

LAYERING CUPCAKE

I had some happy mail last week (aka new stamps arrived!), so I used one of them; the Layering Cupcake stamp set by Altenew.

Now, before you start yelling at your computer screen (you know I can’t hear you, right?) about how layering is not ‘simple stamping’ – I beg to differ! Just last weekend I showed 2 brand new stampers how to use the Layering Fuchsia stamp set (by Hero Arts) and they created a beautiful card each, no problem! You can see the card in this post – it’s the one with the white background. What I love about these layering stamps is that first, they’re photopolymer, which means that you can see exactly where to layer them. Secondly, each layer adds more colour, shading and depth to the image, so a new stamper can create a fabulous image without having to be an artist!

CARD DETAILS

Start with a white cardstock base, so you’re stamping directly onto your card front. With the Layering Cupcake stamp set, you can stamp using your clear blocks, but my MISTI was already in front of me, so I used it.  After setting up the card in the MISTI, stamp the complete outline image of the cupcake in Memento Tuxedo Black ink. After cleaning & removing that stamp, you can continue on with the layers.

There are 2 layers to the cupcake holder. The first & lightest colour is Shabby Shutters, the 2nd darker one is Mowed Lawn, both Distress ink. The icing on the cupcake is 3 layers of colour, to give you all the lovely texture! In order, I used SU! Classic ink Blushing Bride, then Picked Raspberry and finally Festive Berries Distress ink. The final stamping is for the cupcake itself; I love chocolate, so I stamped it in SU! Classic Soft Suede ink.

Next, line up the sentiment, also from the Layering Cupcake stamp set, and stamp in Picked Raspberry ink.

MINIMAL LAYERS

Stamping directly onto the card front definitely minimizes the layers. The Layering Cupcake stamp set does have coordinating dies, if you wanted to step it up. To add interest to the front, I added a layer of patterned paper on top of a panel of bright pink cardstock. For more interest (and thanks to Susan’s inspiration) I cut the bottom of the layers on an angle, and attached them together with liquid glue. Instead of using foam squares, I also use the liquid glue to attach the panels to the card front.
