SKETCH CHALLENGE PCC315
Welcome back! Our last challenge was 2 weeks, and it seems like y’all needed the break! Only a few submissions, but they were all fabulous. I hope that you’ll join in this week’s sketch challenge PCC315. Have a look; I think you’ll like it.
PCC315 SKETCH
Remember that the sketch is your starting point. You can flip it sideways, upside down – or even upside down and sideways! You can change the circle shape to something else; just keep the basic layout the same, and take it from there.
SHIMMER PAINT WASH
My friend and talented demo, Susan of Susan Stamps, recently shared a card where she mixed the Frost White Shimmer Paint with Balmy Blue ink refill to create a background. Well, it was gorgeous (see her card HERE) so I just had to try it out!
I think I could’ve used a bit more Balmy Blue ink, but it came out okay! The shimmer is hard to photograph – I’ll add another picture a bit further down.
CARD FRONT DETAILS
Start with a card base of Real Red cardstock, then add a panel of Garden Green. Attach a panel of the All is Bright Designer Series Paper, then a smaller panel of Real Red cardstock.
To create the background, I put some Balmy Blue ink from my ink pad onto a large Clear Block, then added some Frost White Shimmer Paint. I mixed the two together with a damp Aqua Painter, then applied the paint to a panel of Whisper White cardstock. Hindsight says I should’ve used Shimmery White cardstock! Oh well – my hindsight is always 20/20; what about you?
After the pain had dried, I used my Stamparatus with a Penny Black stamp Season’s Marvel. Because of the paint wash, it has to be stamped several times, first in Pear Pizzazz ink, then add Garden Green ink for some shading. Finally, stamp the tree in Versamark ink, cover with Clear Embossing Powder, and set with a Heat Tool.
Next, stamp the sentiment, also from Penny Black set called Peaceful Season, in Memento Black ink, then again in Versamark ink. Repeat the steps above with the Clear Embossing Powder.
In this picture, above, you can see more of the Frost White Shimmer mixed with the Balmy Blue ink.
To finish off the card front, add a strip of Garden Green cardstock across the bottom of the stamped panel. Use the Big Shot with the Blizzard Thinlits Die and some non-SU! light blue glimmer paper, to die cut 2 snowflakes. You could also use a Sponge, the Balmy Blue ink pad and some Sparkle Glimmer Paper to create your own blue glimmer paper.

It is a great technique and your card is beautiful!
Thanks, Susan! I think I used a bit too much of the shimmer paint…oh well! It’s fun playing 🙂
Gorgeous card! I love that technique!! Hope shimmer paint is here for awhile.
Thanks, Buffy! I agree – I hope the shimmer paint stays in the catalogues. We all need shimmer year ’round, not just holidays 🙂
