SOME LIKE IT HOT SCRAP ‘N STAMP BLOG HOP

Some Like It Hot Scrap 'N Stamp Blog Hop

Welcome to my first blog hop with the Scrap ‘N Stamp Design Team! The theme for this hop is Some Like It Hot – but you won’t be seeing any Marilyn Monroe images, I’m pretty sure. What we’re going to with this theme is hot beverages – coffee, tea, hot chocolate. Maybe a hot toddy? Mulled wine? Whatever your favourite is, it counts!  Each member of the Design Team has created a special project for this hop. We’ve each linked to the post  after us, so all you have to do is click on either the person’s name or the link provided, and you’ll be taken through each of the posts. It’s that easy!

Be sure to leave a comment on each blog post as you go along – there are PRIZES to be won! Scrap ‘N Stamp will be giving away 9 prizes (symbolizing one for each of the Design Team)! But wait – that’s not all! There will also be one $50 Gift Certificate given away ! All prizes will be  randomly chosen from all the comments on all blogs. You don’t want to miss out!

So let’s not waste any more time – let’s get going on the Some Like It Hot Scrap ‘N Stamp Blog Hop!

FRIENDS AT FIRST SIP

My blog is the last on the list, so you should have arrived here from Nancy Frustaci’s blog. Isn’t her project just amazing? She’s so talented. If you didn’t start at the very beginning, at Tara Nixon Cox’s post, be sure to click through to see her fabulous project!

For my project, I used the My Favorite Things ‘Friends at First Sip’ stamp set, and the matching die set.

Of course you can use the stamp set by itself, but die cutting the elements and layering them adds more of a ‘wow’ factor to your card.

BACKGROUND DETAILS

To create the background, start with a 4″ x 5 1/4″ panel of white cardstock. Use your favourite blending tools to sponge on the background colours. I used a combination of my Life Changing Blender Brushes from Picket Fence Studios (coming soon to the Scrap ‘N Stamp store!), and my Tim Holtz Ink Blender tools. Start with Salty Ocean Distress ink for the sky. Next, work from the bottom up first with Shabby Shutters Distress ink, and then the darker Mowed Lawn at the very bottom. Leave a bit of a gap of white between the sky and the grass.

Place the background panel into your MISTI or other stamping platform, and line up the sentiment from the Friends at First Sip stamp set. Stamp the sentiment in Versafine Clair Nocture ink; because you’re using your stamping platform you can stamp it more than once for a crisp, clean impression. Next, cover it with Clear embossing powder, and set it with a heat tool.

IMAGE DETAILS

Now come the fun part – creating all the images to go on your background! You’re going to be die cutting each of the images, so you can stamp them all onto one large piece of white cardstock. Use Memento Tuxedo Black ink; that way it’s safe to colour with your medium of choice. I had fun using alcohol markers for colouring. Be sure to take your time, and add in shading and highlights for dimension.

Full disclosure time – I based these 2 ladies on myself and my BFF Susan! We’ve been friends for about 40 years now, and one of our favourite past times is meeting up for coffee! I have longer, brown hair, and Susan’s is shorter. Her favourite colour is purple, so I used that for her sweater. Neither of us has dogs at the moment, but I know that Susan wants a small dog – and I figured she just might put purple bows on her dog’s ears! You’ll also notice that I added a touch of ‘reality’ – I added some ‘arctic blonde’ (aka gray hair) highlights in both of our hairs!

After you finish colouring, use your Big Shot and the matching Friends at First Sip dies, to die cut each image. Attach each image to the sponged background, using either foam tape or foam squares. Next, attach your front panel to a card base; I chose a bright green that coordinates with the Shabby Shutters  distress ink.

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)
