Springtime Impressions Butterfly

It’s almost summer, which means it’s almost butterfly time! Of course, we do see some in springtime, but there seems to be more around in summer. Or else I’m just outside more, to notice them! The Garden Impressions Suite of products is perfect for this time of year. It includes the Abstract Impressions stamp set, which is full of 2 and 3 step stamps of flowers and grasses. It also includes the Springtime Impressions Thinlits Dies, which coordinate, rather than ‘match’ the stamp set. There are also the coordinating Garden Impressions DSP, coordinating cardstock, ribbon and Blossoms Elements embellishments. You’ll also notice on this page in the catalogue the new Big Shot Embossing Mats. I’m going to show you why they’re included with this suite!

This amazing new product is going to become a staple in your craft arsenal! It basically doubles the use of your dies, and is a must have with the new embossing thinlits, such as in the Nature’s Roots Thinlits. You can read a post I did about using these new Embossing Mats with those thinlits HERE.

Watch this quick Stampin’ Up! video for more on how to use these fabulous mats.

Last week, I shared a card where I die cut the floral corner image using the Springtime Impressions Thinlits. In that post, I die cut, sponged and then replaced the die cut back into the cardstock. You can READ THAT POST HERE.

Today’s card shows how I used the Big Shot Embossing Mats to emboss, rather than die cut the butterfly thinlit from this set, into my cardstock.

Isn’t that pretty? And unique!

First, build your embossing ‘sandwich’ with the Big Shot and the Embossing Mats. Use the butterfly from the Springtime Impressions Thinlits with Grapefruit Grove cardstock. Once embossed, use a Sponge Dauber with Grapefruit Grove ink pad, and add colour to the embossed highlights. Start lightly, then add more colour for increased depth and dimension.

Next, add a panel of Nature’s Poem Designer Series Paper along the bottom the bottom of the Grapefruit Grove cardstock, with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Snip off a length of border trim from the beautiful Delightfully Detailed Laser-Cut Specialty Paper, and add it to the left hand side of the sponged butterfly image.

Use the thank you sentiment from the Daisy Delight stamp set, and stamp it onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock in Soft Suede ink. With the Banner Triple Punch, punch tails on the right end of the cardstock. Attach the sentiment where the DSP joins the cardstock, with Dimensionals. Now add your this panel onto a larger panel of Whisper White, with more Dimensionals. Finally, add your card front onto your Soft Suede cardstock card base.

Now admire your beautifully embossed and sponged butterfly image!

As always, I added an inside panel of Whisper White cardstock to my card base. Since I usually handwrite a message in my thank you cards, I only stamped an image to the inside.  I used the triple leaf image from the Rooted in Nature stamp set, to mimic the leaves on the DSP panel on the front. To keep the colours consistent, the leaves are stamped in Soft Suede ink.

I know there are layers of DSP and cardstock, but I think that the embossing and sponging add an extra dimension to the card front. Let me know what you think – leave me a comment on this post! I’d love to hear how you’re enjoying the new catalogue, and what you think of these new products.

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)

    1. So glad you like the embossed butterfly, Buffy! I’m still learning with the embossing mats, but they are fun!

    1. Thanks, Susan! I’m glad you like the embossed butterfly; I was a bit hesitant when sponging, but found the more I added, the better it looked 🙂

I love to read what you have to say! Thanks for commenting ;)
