STAINED GLASS BIRDS
Okay, technically they’re not stained glass birds – but they look like it! I love the Graceful Glass Designer Vellum for it’s gorgeous patterns. The fact that the black lines are slightly raised, giving them an embossed or 3D look, adds to the stained glass look.
The Vellum can be coloured with any of our Stampin’ Up! colouring mediums; Stampin’ Write Markers, Blends Markers, Watercolor Pencils or Aqua Painters. My only advice to you is (a) make sure you leave drying time, as the vellum doesn’t absorb as quickly as cardstock or watercolour paper, and (b) if you use the Aqua Painters with inks, the vellum will warp a bit. Otherwise – have fun, and feel like an artist!
BIRDS ON A WIRE
The hardest part about using this Vellum is that it measures 6″ x 6″, which means if you’re creating a standard A2 card, (4″ x 5 1/4″) you’re going to have to cut it down to fit. To create this card, I cut the vellum to fit inside the Delightfully Detailed Laser-Cut Specialty Paper oval.
In the photo above, you can see how the black lines are raised, which enhances the faux stained glass look. Did I mention how much I love this vellum paper?!
DETAILS
These birds are so pretty, I wanted them to be framed. So, I chose the oval die cut panel from the Delightfully Detailed Laser-Cut Specialty Paper. This specialty paper is white on one side, and vanilla on the other. I chose to use the white side, to go with the vellum.
To colour the birds, use the Stampin’ Write Markers. Colour on the front side of the vellum for the brightest colours. You can colour on the back, but the colours will not be as vibrant. The middle 2 birds are coloured with Tranquil Tide and Mint Macaron. Grapefruit Grove and Pineapple Punch are used to colour the 1st and 5th birds. Finally, Coastal Cabana, Granny Apple Green and Daffodil Delight are used for the other birds.
LAYERING PANELS
To keep the colours vibrant, back the vellum panel with a panel of Whisper White cardstock of the same size, with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Next, add the Laser Cut piece to the front, with more Dimensionals.
Cut a 4″ x 5 1/4″ panel of Pineapple Punch cardstock, and wrap a length of Whisper White ribbon across the middle horizontally. Hold it in place with Tear & Tape on the back. Add your image panels on top, with more Dimensionals.
Finally, add your front panels to a Coastal Cabana cardstock base. To finish off your card front, add 3 Glitter Enamel Dots in Coastal Cabana.
HAVE A PEEK INSIDE
Since I had to trim the vellum panel to size, I couldn’t just let the trimmed pieces go to waste! I coloured one of the strips with Daffodil Delight and Mint Macaron Stampin’ Write Markers, and added it along the bottom of the inside panel.
The sentiment is non-SU!, but it was what I needed for this card!
