Summer Fun with the Blogging Friends!

Welcome to the July Blogging Friends Blog Hop!  This month we’re all about enjoying the summer, and sharing it with you through our projects.

I was trying to think of what projects I could do, that say ‘summer’, so I started thinking about what people do, and what types of events happen during summer.  Well, everyone has bar-b-ques, picnics, and of course weddings are a big summer event!  So I put together some projects that  you could use for a get-together, and they could also be used for a summer wedding or bridal shower.

First up, here’s a picture of all 3 projects together:

Here I’ve made a wine bottle wrap, a votive candle holder and a small treat pouch.  The colours I chose to use are Whisper White, Peekaboo Peach and Not Quite Navy with an accent of gold; I think they work well together, and are suitable for summer, and weddings.

The small treat holder is so cute, and easy to create:

Using a piece of Peekaboo Peach cardstock measuring 8″ x 4 1/8″, first score on the long side at 3 1/4″, and 4 3/4″.  Fold and burnish your score lines, then use your Big Shot with the Precision Plate and the larger Detailed Floral Thinlit to cut first one side, then the other of the holder.  (burnishing your score lines helps you in placing exactly where you want the thinlits to be).  Also, use the top border edgelit to get the finished detail cut across the top.

I place some truffles inside my treat holder, then used the 1/8″ Ribbon in Gold to tie it closed with a bow.  I stamped the sentiment from the Birthday Blooms onto Whisper White cardstock in Peekaboo Peach ink, and used the heart framelit from the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits Dies to die cut it.  I then sponged the edges with the same ink and a Sponge Dauber, then tied the heart onto the front using a bit more of the gold ribbon.  I did also sponge around the die cuts on the whole treat holder as well, to add a bit of depth.  I think these would make awesome favours at a wedding, or just a little ‘thank you’ gift for your guests at a party.

For those evening patio parties, or when the lights dim for dancing time, a night soft glow is needed!

I stayed with using Whisper White cardstock for this project, but of course you could use any colour to coordinate for your wedding or event.  This candle holder (I recommend using electric or battery operated candles, not real flames, as after all, this is made of paper!) is made by die cutting 2 pieces of cardstock using the Detailed Floral Thinlits, and creating a base to hold the candle.  I wanted to add an extra bit of shine, so I used the retired SAB Glitter Washi Tape in Gold and wrapped it around the bottom.  This is a bit more of a detailed project, so I will work on getting a tutorial together for you soon!

For my final project, I wanted to make this fabulous wine bottle cover that I  had seen on the very talented Caroline Wright’s blog; you can find here tutorial HERE – she does an amazing job of explaining how to create this project!

I hope you can see from this picture that this bottle wrap fits perfectly – with no gaps or anything – it just snugs right up around the wine bottle!  I am so pleased with how it turned out, and it really wasn’t difficult! Please do check out Caroline’s blog for  her tutorial – she figured out all the math, which I would never have had the patience to do!

The base of the bottle wrap is created from Not Quite Navy cardstock; the panels are Whisper White stamped with the flourish from the Everything Eleanor stamp set (it it retired, but I’m not giving it up!  you could use the current Flourishing Phrases) stamped in Peekaboo Peach.  To create the sentiment, I inked up the flourish, then stamped it off once before stamping onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  I then stamped over it in Not Quite Navy the sentiment from the Floral Phrases stamp set.  I used the 2″ Circle Punch for the sentiment, then used the retired 2 3/8″ Scallop Punch for the Not Quite Navy piece behind it.  I layered the two together using Stampin’ Dimensionals, then attached it to the bottle wrap using more Dimensionals.

Finally, the 5/8″ Organza ribbon was pulled through the circles punched in the wrap around the top – here’s a better picture of that:

Then tied off in a bow.  I think any host/hostess would be thrilled to receive such a nicely wrapped bottle of wine, or any other beverage – plus, it can be reused!
