‘Tis the Season for Sharing & Caring

Hello stamping friend!  Thanks for taking the time today to read my little blog – I appreciate you being  here!

During this busy time of year, we can sometimes get so wrapped up (no pun intended) in our own long to-do lists, that we forget that not everyone has a family to be with during the holidays, and that not everyone can celebrate the holidays in the same way we do.

As I was scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed, I came across a story about a little boy who was born with a rare syndrome called Kabuki Syndrome, which causes him to have feeding difficulties, hip dysplasia, hernias, eye sight issues, and extremely low muscle tone that keeps him wheelchair bound.

This is part of the story, which his mother shared:

“Owen’s is even rarer because he’s the only person that carries this type of variance in the world,” mother Stephanie Beharrell told Vancity Buzz.

Stephanie said he has just undergone his 14th surgery, which included four procedures in one go, leaving Owen in a body cast for the third time in his life.

Cognitively, he’s delayed at about six months of age and is non-verbal.

Every year, Christmas is a difficult time for Stephanie and her husband. They have exhausted most of the toy options for six-month-olds and Owen’s low muscle tone makes it difficult for him to lift anything more than paper.

That’s why they’re asking people to send Owen Christmas cards this year on his Facebook page, Hope for Owen.

“You think about the things he enjoys – well, he enjoys paper – he enjoys patting on books while you read them to him, and they’re objects he can actually hold in his hand,” she said.

“I was trying to think of ways – what kind of paper-y things can I get him this year? And then someone said to me ‘why don’t you ask people on his Facebook page to send Christmas cards?’”

Well – I think I was meant to see that story, don’t you?!  And I know that you, my wonderful stamping friend, would like to help cheer up this little boy’s Christmas, if you have the time.

I’ve made my card to send to Owen; I’ll be putting it in the mail today.  His address is included in the story, but here it is, just in case you want a quick reference:
