I’m back again with another Challenge card!
I am lovin’ these challenges; so much fun, and they’re pushing my creative energy.
This card is for the Wacky Watercooler Challenge; you may recognize the name, because I’m part of the Wacky Watercooler gang that does blog hops at least once a month. The hops are always tons of fun to do, and we have a lot of regular participants. The challenges were originally created by one of our gang, Terri Antinow – you can see her blog HERE. Terri is taking a bit of a break from SU! right now, so Heidi, who coordinates our blog hops, has taken over the challenges. Heidi’s amazing blog can be seen HERE – I always love to check out her new creations.
Anyway – this week’s challenge is to feature a card or project with a Valentine theme. I thought this was a great idea – until I checked my stamp sets, and realized that I don’t any Valentine’s sets that aren’t retired! Well – plan B, here we come! Stampin’ Up!’s sets are very versatile, so I simply put my other sets & tools to work – and this is the card I created:
How about that?! And not a single Valentine ‘specific’ set used! Yup, I love myself! LOL Here’s what I did use: I started with a card base of Real Red card stock. I then cut a panel of the fabulous Irresistibly Yours DSP (FREE from the Sale-a-bration brochure – you have GOT to get this DSP!!), and inked it with Real Red ink and a Sponge Dauber. After covering it with the ink, I used a paper towel and removed the red ink from the embossed white stars. Much less work than stamping all those stars, heat embossing them and then rubbing off the ink! I then used the heart included in the Mini Treat Bag Thinlit Die, and cut 2 hearts using the Big Shot and Real Red and Bermuda Bay card stock. I had some leftover Whisper White card stock small hearts – also from using the hearts border thinlit in the Mini Treat Bag Thinlit Die pack – and I attached them to the larger hearts using glue dots. I then used the Hello You Thinlits Dies and the Big Shot to cut out the ‘You’ again in Real Red and Bermuda Bay card stock, and offset them again using glue dots, and attached them to the inked Irresistibly Yours DSP using Stampin’ Dimensionals. I then stamped the sentiment from the Crazy About You stamp set in Bermuda Bay ink on Whisper White card stock, sponged the edges with the same ink, and layered it onto a piece of Real Red card stock. Both pieces were cut into banners using the Bitty Banners Framelits Dies, and layered onto the DSP panel using Stampin’ Dimensionals. The entire front panel was then attached to the card base, again using Stampin’ Dimensionals. (yes, I love using those things! it’s a running joke in my classes 🙂 )
So – you can see how you can take a Stampin’ Up! stamp set or two, and use them for purposes other than their original intention – in a good way, of course!
This time of the year is perfect for getting those sets that you’ve been putting off purchasing – because it’s Sale-a-bration time, which means that with every $60 you spend, you get to choose 1 FREE ITEM from the Sale-a-bration brochure – like this gorgeous Irresistibly Yours DSP! Remember, the items in the SAB brochure can’t be purchased, and you won’t see them in the next catalogue – so you have to get them now; or at least before March 31st, which is when this super deal ends!
While you’re putting your order together, I hope you’ll head over to the Wacky Watercooler Challenge blog to see what the design team made, and check out the other challenge submissions. You can even enter your own card!! C’mon – it’s fun – and you have until Feb. 20th to enter! 🙂
All products used in creating this card are pictured below; if you’d like to order them, simply click on the picture(s), and you’ll be taken directly to my online store. Or, you can give me a call or email, and I’ll place your order on your behalf.
Thanks for joining me for this challenge; until next time,
