Welcome back for another Watercooler Wednesday challenge!
It has been such fun, and so inspiring, seeing all of the amazing card submissions for each weekly challenge. I really enjoy visiting each blog post, and having a good look at your card, and how you created it. I hope you’ll join in again this week!
This week it’s going to be really easy for you to join, as the theme is “Anything Goes”. That means whatever you’re working on, no matter what colours, layout or theme, it fits this challenge!
I decided to use one of my favourite new sets, Timeless Textures, and a technique for creating a colour block on your card:
I started with my card base in Blackberry Bliss – a retiring colour I am *really* going to miss – and then set it aside.
I took a panel of Very Vanilla cardstock, and stamped the dots from Timeless Textures randomly in both Blackberry Bliss and Crumb Cake ink. I then took my Clear Block ‘D’, and inked it up with Crumb Cake ink by ‘pouncing’ the ink pad on top of the block. I wanted to keep a fairly crisp outline, so I did not spritz any water on either the block or the cardstock. I simply stamped straight down onto the cardstock with the inked block, then lifted it straight back up.
I then inked up the lovely flourish image from Timeless Textures in Blackberry Bliss ink, and stamped it in the bottom right hand corner of the Crumb Cake square. I really like that this image is not solid, so it gives the same textured look as the block stamping did. I wanted to add a bit more colour, so then I took the small flower stamp from the Flower Patch stamp set, and stamped it a few times in Blackberry Bliss ink, but first stamped off once to remove some of the colour, before stamping onto the cardstock.
I then used the Botanical Builders Framelits Dies to create the flower layers; I stacked them together using Glue Dots, added some loops of Gold Thread behind it, and attached it to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
The Blackberry Bliss is so dark that it’s hard to see the details; here’s a close up picture of the flower, where you can see that I did add some Clear Wink of Stella to the inside petals.
I’m quite happy with how this turned out; I know that there’s a bit too many details like the gold thread, and the sponging around the entire Very Vanilla panel for this to be a Clean and Simple card, but I’m happy! If you’d care to let me know what you think, I’d love to read your comments 🙂
Now, I hope you’ll head over to the Watercooler Wednesday page, and check out the amazing cards the rest of the Watercooler Artists have created for your inspiration. I’ll be looking for your card to be added to the challenge!
Until next time – happy stamping!
This is gorgeous, Deborah! I love the stamped block, and the colors are just beautiful. Your little details – the thread, Wink of Stella – really make it stand out.
Thank you, Buffy! I really appreciate your comment 🙂
Gorgeous card – the blackberry bliss really makes it pop – such a shame its being retired – I never even got to get any in time
Thanks so much for your kind comment – I’m really glad you liked my card! I agree – Blackberry Bliss is one colour I’m hoping will make a return in the next big ‘colour refresh’!
Quite a lovely card Deb! I am drawn to the layout as it looked like one from another challenge I recently played with. I love the color choice – Blackberry Bliss – I, too, will miss that color – it’s so rich. The block stamping is cool and I have not tried it yet. After seeing this lovely card, I must! And, you used those flowers I seem to have so much trouble just trying!!
Deb, this is a beautiful card. I love the stamped block element, which sets everything else off. Lovely
Thanks for your kind comment, Jackie! I really appreciate it, and am glad you liked my card 🙂
