What Helps You Get Through the Day?

WHAT HELPS YOU GET THROUGH THE DAY?

Short answer for me? Coffee! Yup – coffee! Hot, iced, at home, take out or anywhere else; the answer is coffee. What helps you get through the day? Do you prefer tea, or fruit smoothies? Maybe one of those horrible looking/smelling ‘protein drinks’? I hope not those store-bought ‘energy’ drinks; that stuff is just bad for you!

WARNING – NON STAMPIN’ UP! CONTENT AHEAD!

I did it again; I ordered a stamp set that is NOT from Stampin’ Up! Full disclosure; it was out of my control! Along with coffee being my life blood, Sloths are one of my favourite animals. Yes, they are on my bucket list of animals to see, possibly touch, before I shuffle off this mortal coil! Besides, my youngest son (now 20) also loves sloths, so I thought I could justify it – you know, so I could make special cards for him! 😉

I’ve lived in Africa, so I’ve seen lions, giraffes, wildebeest, all kinds of antelope, elephants, hyena and more, in person. All at a safe distance; well, there were the herd of zebra that stood in front of our vehicle for about a half hour before they would move, and they hyena that chased our car down a road outside of the game preserve…. But I’ve never seen a sloth in person.

Have you ever seen the clip from the Ellen show, where she introduces Kristen Bell (also a mega sloth lover) to a real sloth?  That would be me – total meltdown! If you have 3 minutes – watch the whole thing – please! You won’t regret it (unless you don’t like sloths; that’s not possible, is it?!)

What did I tell you? Complete meltdown! I’d like to think I’d be a bit more in control – but I’ll have to wait until I meet a sloth, to know for sure! (I’ll have someone video tape it, so you can find out, too!)

COFFEE + SLOTH = SLOFFEE

What Helps You Get Through the Day?

SQUEE!! Isn’t he adorable?! As sloth, in a coffee cup – telling me to have a ‘sloffee’ break! How could I resist? Yes, I’m weak….

DETAILS

There are several very cute sloth images in this stamp set, but I started with this one. My son, being part of me, after all, also lives for coffee. So I thought this would be a good card for him 🙂

While the stamp is not SU!, everything else I used are SU! products. First, stamp the image with Memento Black ink onto Whisper White cardstock. Next, use the Light Pool Party Blends Marker and colour the entire coffee (sloffee?) cup. Then, use the Dark Pool Party Blends to add shading the one side of the cup, as shown above. After adding the shading, go back with the Light Pool Party Blends and do some blending.

To colour the sloth, I blended a combination of colours until I was happy that he was appropriately sloth looking. Use the Light and Dark Crumb Cake, along with the Bronze, Stampin’ Blends Markers. Add shading to create shadow on the sloth, and darker shadows on those incredible long nails.

Once your happy with your colouring, take the Light Smoky Slate Blends, and add some shadowing around the right side & bottom of the sloffee er, coffee cup.

CREATE THE CARD FRONT

What Helps You Get Through the Day?

I had some Coffee Break DSP left over from the last annual catalogue, so I thought it was perfect to use on this card.

DETAILS

Create a card base from Soft Suede cardstock. Next, attach a layer of the coffee cup rings pattern from the Coffee Break DSP. On top of that, layer a panel of a different pattern from the same DSP vertically down the middle, with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Cut a panel of Whisper White to the same width as the main image panel, and stamp the sentiment in Soft Suede ink. Cut 2 panels of Pool Party cardstock, for behind both the sentiment and main image panel. Attach them with more Dimensionals.

Now attach the 2 panels to the card front, again with Dimensionals.

Isn’t this just so cute?!

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)

    1. Wasn’t that hilarious?! And how awesome to get to hold a sloth – on your birthday?! 🙂 Glad you liked it, Susan. I’ll have to share some Africa stories with you, at OnStage!

I love to read what you have to say! Thanks for commenting ;)
