Winter Tales Holiday Card

I’m on a roll now with holiday, winter and Christmas cards!  I need to make a lot of Christmas cards, as always, so you’ll be seeing a lot of them in the next week or so. This is one of my favourite stamps from last year, called Winter Tales. It makes a great holiday card, Christmas or ‘just because’ winter card to send.

This stamp is from  Penny Black; I think they draw the cutest birds! This scene with the birds, fence greenery and bow is quintessential ‘winter’.

If you or someone you know doesn’t celebrate Christmas, that doesn’t mean that you can’t send a card! The sentiment from Poppystamps Christmas Fun is perfect for this. Cheerful, but not specifically ‘Christmas’.

Stamp the Winter Tales stamp onto white cardstock, with Nocturne ink. Now, choose your alcohol markers to use for colouring. As my usual, I combine the brands that I have, to get the colours I need.  Here are the colours I chose, and brands.

Copic: E37 Sepia, B02 Robin’s Egg Blue, Y29 Lionet Gold, R29 Lipstick Red, G03 Meadow Green and YG07 Acid Green. Spectrum Noir Tri-Blend: Citrus Blend and Light Green Blend.  Spectrum Noir Illustrator: Amber, and Natural Brown.

When the colouring is finished, apply Broken China Distress Oxide ink around the edges of the top 1/2 of the cardstock. Next, stamp the sentiment from the Christmas Fun stamp set in Nocturne ink at the top. Now, apply Texture Paste to create the 3D snow effect. This will need time to dry, so if you want, you can apply it after the card front is attached to the dark blue card base.

To add some sparkle to the card, use the Nuvo Aqua Shimmer pen in Midas Touch. Apply it wherever you want some sparkle; I added it to the ornament, the bow and little touches on the greenery. The photo above shows off the sparkle, plus the dimension added by the texture paste.

Are you making a lot of Christmas cards this season? I think this is definitely the year that EVERYONE will appreciate some happy mail!  To re-create my Winter Tales holiday card, I’ve linked the supplies for you below. Have fun creating! Be sure to come back tomorrow afternoon, for our Scrap ‘N Stamp ‘Iconic Christmas’ Blog Hop! We’ll be going ‘live’ at 3 pm, PST.

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)

  1. Loving those special little birds and the fence post Deb. This is a wonderful wintry card, and it’s good to remember that not everyone celebrates the holiday season, but almost everyone could use some cheering up or comfort during those months ahead. Especially this year.

We’ve been seeing our share of tiny little birds this year and its been fun watching them in the bird bath and trees behind our home. Since we back on to Canada Trail and have 36 miles of forest behind us, we get a lot of different varieties of birds and critters visiting. I’ve been seeing a few hummingbirds this past week, so I think I’ll have to spring for a hummingbird feeder so we can keep them alive during the colder months.

    1. Thanks so much, Penny! I’m glad that you like this image, too. You’ll love watching hummingbirds coming to feed; I keep our feeder up year ’round, and it’s always busy 🙂 I always put food out for the other birds (& squirrels) too, so it’s always lively in the back yard.

  2. So cute, Deborah! Those birds are adorable, and I LOVE the “snow.” This is perfect for a holiday card – especially for businesses who are sending to clients of all backgrounds!

    1. I’m glad that you like this winter card, Buffy! The texture paste is a fun addition to create the snow, though white paint does the trick, as well. Thanks for visiting! 🙂
