Welcome to July 1st, which not only is Canada Day, it is also the official start of World Watercolour Month 2021! Every July, Doodlewash sponsors this amazing month of creativity. The idea is to celebrate watercolour painting, and is a charitable event to support Arts education.
THE HISTORY OF WORLD WATERCOLOUR MONTH
FYI – yes, I’m spelling the word with the ‘u’, because I’m Canadian! Doodlewash is located in the U.S., therefore the spelling difference. However you spell it, World Watercolour Month is fun, and fabulous! You can read more about it on the website HERE, but here’s a snip I’ve taken directly from there.
Charlie O’Shields, the creator of Doodlewash®, and host of the Sketching Stuff podcast, founded World Watercolor Month in 2016. His own love of the medium led to the creation of a blog and social artist movement dedicated to promoting and connecting the vast community of watercolor artists all over the world. After hosting a few early art challenges, celebrating various fun and delightfully obscure holidays, it became apparent that there wasn’t an official celebration of the medium we all love. Over 18,000 applications are submitted for “official days” each year and only 30 are added to the calendar so it was a long shot, but the registrars agreed with the cause and now it’s official! July is now and forever World Watercolor Month!

MY DAY 1 WATERCOLOUR PAINTING
I had started this painting before our heat wave, and had to leave it until our temperatures finally cooled down. I’m VERY happy to say that we’re now at a very live able 25C/77F today!
This is another Brusho watercolour painting done on canvas. My first canvas watercolour I shared last week you can see in THIS POST.
After prepping the canvas with 2 layers of watercolour ground, I sketched the scene before painting. I’m not calling this one finished yet. The tree on the right makes me unhappy, and I feel that the sky needs something else – perhaps a bird or two? I’m also debating whether I should colour in the bridge, or leave it white. Opinions? Or, I might just cover the whole thing in more watercolour ground, and start over!
Here’s another look, from a different angle. Let me know what you think!
WILL YOU BE JOINING WORLD WATERCOLOUR MONTH 2021?

Very nice, Deborah! I’m looking forward to the rest of your creations this month! (Love Brusho!) Glad things have cooled down a bit!
Thanks, Buffy! I’ll share the final version of this painting once I’ve made some more changes to it.
