Are you taking part in World Watercolour Month? I’m painting, but I’m not following the daily prompts. Sometimes you can’t figure out what to paint – that’s where daily prompts come in very handy! You can find the list at the Doodlewash site HERE, and I’ll list them below. I thought I’d share with you my progress on my World Watercolour Month projects.
WORLD WATERCOLOUR MONTH PROMPT LIST
Here’s the list of daily prompts, if you’d like to use them.
Be sure to use the hashtag #WorldWatercolorMonth, when sharing your artwork on social media!
BEFORE AND AFTER
On day 1, July 1st, I had shared with you a work in progress watercolour painting. At the time it wasn’t finished, and I wasn’t happy with it. Well, I got some opinions and advice from my artist friends in the Brusho Fun group, and went back to work! If you’d like details on the ‘before’ painting, you can see THIS POST.
For reference, here is the painting at that point when I stopped.
And now, here is a photo after I’ve added some reflections and shadows.
Well, what do you think? I think it’s a bit better, but I’m still not thrilled. The good thing is that it all counts as practice! And as we all know, practice helps us learn, and improve. That’s my hope, anyway.
For this painting, I used a reference photo from another Facebook group. There, wonderful photographers post their photos specifically for others to use, without copyright infringement. This is how it looked when I had only started putting down the first layer of colour, when the heat wave hit last week.
I’m using Stonehenge Aqua Coldpress 140 lb. paper, 9″ x 12″, with Brusho Crystal Colours and Daniel Smith Moonglow. And below is how it looks, now.
I was drawn to this photo because of the textures of the walls, and the shadows & light. Again – practice, practice, practice! Below is the original photo reference, by Blue Peony Photography.
Let me know if you’re taking part in #worldwatercolormonth! Remember, it’s not about creating masterpieces (but if you can, good for you!) but getting creative, learning and having fun!
